Each workshop costs $10 and will be held at the shed located at the Therapeutic Riding Center, right across from the Penn State Extension Office at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg. Free Pressure Canner Dial Gauge Testing – Penn State Extension is offering free canner lid testing on the first Wednesday of every month from 10 AM to Noon at the Franklin County Extension Office, located at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA. There’s no need to bring your entire canner; just bring the lid. No sign-up is required. If you can’t attend on these dates, you can drop off your canner lid and pick it up later. Additionally, free information on safe food preservation methods will be available. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office at 717-263-9226.
Monday, August 18, 2025, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s and Dementia – Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking, and behavior that can interfere with daily life. To help you better understand the most common warning signs of Alzheimer’s and what is normal aging and what is not, Penn State Extension is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide: 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s. Happening Now until August 27, 2025 – Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards 2025 Native Tree & Shrub Fundraiser – Organizers are accepting orders through August 27th, for native trees and shrubs. Plants will be sold in 1, 2, or 3-gallon pots, and proceeds from the sale support watershed improvement efforts in the community. FEEDCENTS: Feed for Components Dairy Nutrition Workshop
Join Penn State Extension for FeedCENTS, a day of hands-on learning to improve milk component output. Explore nutritional differences between fresh and ensiled feeds, learn about better feed storage management, and improve your skills at measuring bunk densities and using a variety of tools to assess feed quality.

September 4, 2025 – November 25, 2025 – LIFT (12 Weeks) – LIFT (Lifelong Improvements through Fitness Together) is an in-person, group-based, strength training program for adults aged 40+. Participation in LIFT may result in improvements in functional fitness or the ability to perform activities of daily living with ease. Participants are encouraged to work towards achieving their own personal goals in a group setting.
LIFT sessions are held twice a week for one hour over the course of twelve weeks and include an active warm-up, eight-core strength training exercises, and a cool down. The program also includes basic nutrition information with an emphasis on increased fruit and vegetable intake. The costs for these 12-week sessions are $90 and will take place at the Adams County Agricultural and Natural Resources Center, 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325. Saturday, October 4, 2025, 1:00PM – Basic Tree Identification – Join Penn State Master Gardeners for an engaging session on tree identification. Attendees will gather at the Pavilion of Waltonian Meadows, 129 Cornertown Rd, Chambersburg, PA for a three-hour outdoor workshop. In this informative workshop, you will learn the basics of identifying native tree species using tree identification keys and plant samples. Our session includes a lecture, a demonstration, and hands-on practice. You’ll discover the intricacies of leaf arrangement and shapes and be guided step-by-step through the identification key. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear footwear suitable for walking and standing on grassy terrain. The cost for this workshop is $10.
