Dog ate this and vomited. Leaving for vet, but aspca poison control suggested I try and be certain of what the plant is. Google comes back as Chinese Elm. We are in Charlotte NC

    Elm – Ulmus genus

I just want to say it is somewhat normal for dogs to vomit after eating foliage. In fact it can be a normal behavior, if a dog is feeling sick to its stomach it will sometimes eat grass to induce vomiting

definitely looks like an elm- i would guess either slippery or american elm. rub your finger over the leaf- if it’s rough like a cat’s tongue, probably slippery.

I agree that it is probably an elm and nothing I see on line indicates it is the least bit toxic. Dogs eat plant material all the time, sometimes just because, sometimes because their tummy feels off and they want to vomit to feel better

Definitely an elm, as far as i know they’re nontoxic.

My dog routinely vomited and did not eat food when we went out of town and had someone caring for her. For some dogs it’s a super stressful time not having their humans where they belong.

I’m hoping you aren’t charging the owner for this wasted vet visit.

Dogs loves young Elm leaves and I’ve always wondered why? We have american elms in the neighborhood and all dogs seem drawn to sapling leaves when they can access them. Dogs always eat a variety of vegetation but elm sapling leaves seem to be a particular draw.

That digested perfectly in tact ! Should be fine.

  9. The first image is 1000% an elm of some kinda.

The second picture honestly looks a little off for elm are you sure they’re the same plant?
