The Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS) is pleased to be planting the seeds for many decades of good urban food-growing habits in Langford, the broader west shore region, across Greater Victoria, and beyond.
At Porcher Park Community Garden in downtown Langford nearly three dozen households who don’t have their own yard space are growing vegetables and fruits in raised garden beds. As well, some fresh produce is donated to the local food bank or other food network support groups.

As more households cannot afford a home with a yard, these growing boxes are an opportunity to grow food of their own in tough economic times.
The garden is a public space owned by the City of Langford and operated by Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society (UFRIS).
Gardening at Porcher Park is a good opportunity for youth and for seniors, as well as families who bring their children to learn about growing food.
The community garden at Porcher Park also grows food for donation to the community. Fresh produce is taken to the Living Edge Westshore Food Market (a shop-as-go-you food bank) on Friday mornings.
