The Kitchen Storm Update was launched in Grow a Garden on August 9, 2025. It expanded on the previous Trading and Cooking Event Update by adding the Rat Connoisseur, new pets, seeds, and plenty more. On this page, you’ll find information detailing the new event and all the admin abuse that took place leading up to the update.

Before the Kitchen Storm Update

The lead-up to the Kitchen Storm update was filled with more chaos than usual. This is because the Grow a Garden developers made it so they can run multiple events simultaneously. While normally we get several admin abuse events and restocks from Jandel, this pre-update event had another person involved, Albert.

The event started a little late, but it quickly got crazy as new events like the Junkbot Raid were introduced. Alongside this, we also saw the new Oil and Boil Rain weather. If you were around before the Kitchen Storm update, there were two opportunities to get the new Junkbot pet and Flamingo Garden Stake Cosmetic. Jandel and Albert gave it once during the event and once just before the update was released.

Aside from that, we saw the return of many admin events, with some having an Albert variant. Such as the heavenly floating Jandel replaced by Albert. Or instead of Jandel smashing the ground with a hammer to restock, Albert body slammed the island from above. This led to a lot of Burning Bud restocks with some Giant Pinecones mixed in.

The real chaos was a little after the pre-update event ended, as we saw several admin events stacked. At one point, the Junkbot Raid, Boil Rain!, Oil Rain!, Volcano, and heavenly event were all running together.

What’s New in the Kitchen Storm Update

The biggest change in this update is the Rat Connoisseur, since it adds more to the cooking system in Grow a Garden. Instead of only trying to make Prismatic recipes and even Transcendent ones now, you’ll need to mutate your meals too. The Cooking Pot now has a mutation gauge tracking how mutated your meal is. By adding mutated fruit to the pot, you’ll increase it and get mutated meals for the Rat Connoisseur.

New Cosmetics

Continuing from the Food Crate added in the previous update, we now have the Kitchen Crate for more food-themed cosmetics. So if you’re looking to put together a kitchen in your garden, we’ve got the decorations for you.

You can get the Kitchen Crate as a reward from giving the Rat Connoisseur mutated meals. Here are the seven cosmetics you can get from one:

Frying Pan – 17.48% Chance Pizza Box – 17.48% Chance Sink Cabinet – 13.99% Chance Stove – 13.99% Chance Fridge – 13.99% Chance Cabinet Utensil – 13.99% Chance Donut Swing – 6.99% ChanceNew Pets Were Added

Each of the new pets added in the Kitchen Storm update continues the Grow a Garden trend of getting sillier. While the last update gave us the Spaghetti Sloth, we now have a Bacon Pig, which yes, appears to be a pig wrapped in bacon. Three of the new pets are in the Culinarian Chest:

Bacon Pig – 34.5% Chance Hotdog Daschund – 14.5% Chance Lobster Thermidor – 1% Chance

The other two new pets are part of the Rat Connoisseur’s rewards:

Many new seeds were also added in the Kitchen Storm update. Similar to the new pets, these are split between the Culinarian Chest and the Rat Connoisseur’s rewards. Here are the three seeds you can get from the Culinarian Chest:

Rhubarb Badlands Pepper King Cabbage

Here are the four seeds you can get from the Rat Connoisseur:

The new weather event this update revolves around is the Kitchen Storm, where you can trigger it by giving Chris P. meals. The rarity of your meal will impact how many points it contributes to the Kitchen Storm Meter above Chris P.’s head. Once you fill it up, a storm will trigger providing a faster cooking speed, higher chance of mutations carrying over in meals, and fruit getting the Aromatic mutation.

You can level up the storm if you continue giving Chris P. meals and fill the meter again. Over time, the storm will calm down and either end or drop to the previous level.

New Recipe Book For Cooking

The new Recipe Book next to Chris P. can help you understand how to make certain meals. This is especially helpful when there’s a craving you’re not quite sure how to cook. Fortunately, we’ve also put together a ton of different recipes for each rarity in our Cooking Recipes List.

How Mutated Meals Work in the Kitchen Storm Update

In order to get the new rewards from the Rat Connoisseur near the center of the island, you’ll need to cook up some mutated meals. If you’ve already cooked food in the previous update, you’ll have an idea of how this works. The main thing you need to do is use mutated fruit in your Cooking Pot recipes.

As you add mutated fruit to the pot, the gauge above it that shows a Mutation % will begin to fill up. The higher it is seems to play a role in how many mutations your meal will get. Which will likely impact the rewards you get from the Rat Connoisseur. This is why you’ll want to get that mutation gauge as high as you can.

As long as you get it above the red section, you’ll probably have a chance of getting mutations. While having it in the green is likely a guarantee. However, we’re still testing how this all works to understand it better.

One trick we’ve noticed is that the amount of mutations on a fruit impacts how much it will contribute to the gauge. And as you add more to the pot, those fruit will contribute less. It doesn’t matter the order you add them in, however. Here’s how much you’ll get per mutation when adding it as the first fruit:
