Today we want to talk about well one plants but pests on this milkweed here we are just covered in little golden aphids and what they do is they suck the essential juices scientific term out of the plants. They wither they get sad leaves curl they also leave behind a sticky substance called honeydew. This honeydew can lead can attract mold, fungus, other things we don’t want growing on our plants. So, what do we do? You know, we can rub them off. We can spray them to get rid of them. Or we can introduce predators. For today, I’d like to talk about ladybugs. One of my favorite predators. Now, a few things about ladybugs. They have spots. They can fly. They eat aphids. They eat mites. They eat thris, white flies, all kinds of little stuff that we don’t want in our garden. Now, got a few here. Few thousand actually on the move, ready to go, ready to eat. Did you know that a group of ladybugs is technically called a loveliness? Loveliness. I’ve got a loveliness of ladybugs here. So, what you would do and what maybe I will do. Someone hold my beer. So, these ladybugs, each ladybug can eat about 50 aphids in a day, about 5,000 in their lifetime. And boy are they hungry. Now they’re starting to crawl out all over me, all over the place. Great. What you want to do is spritz their destination with a little bit of water and they’ll be like, “Oh, cool. I love this place.” They’ll stick around. What else can Lady Big Bugs Lady Big Bugs be used for? Well, will they eat mosquitoes? No, not really. Can you use them for headlights? Would you try? It could be fun. It could be fun. Dump a whole bag of these on your kid in the middle of the night. Shake them up. Wake them up. Guess what? Uh, another thing we can do is to plant the plants that attract ladybugs, like yarao. Beautiful yarao. Beautiful California native plant. It flowers. Its pollen is attractive to ladybugs. Dill, fennel. all kind all all kinds of other stuff. Yes, you’re lovely. Your whole gang is lovely and together we’re a big loveliness. Thanks. Keep it peaceful. Keep it real.
