So I have established a KBG yard for about three years. I’ve struggled because I live in the bottom of a valley that gets a lot of water and runoff and of course weeds from everybody around me.

Of course, being the lazy person I am, I have not put down any pre-emergent like prodiamine in my yard which results in having to go in spray for crabgrass and Nutsedge and spurge. I’ve got built in Irrigation and in May I tried to mix perennial ryegrass in my backyard with pretty terrible results because it all died out.

So fast-forward to the end of July, and I had a tremendous amount of weeds due to me not being home for two weeks for vacation, so I sprayed it with a surfactant and ended up burning the whole section in my front yard and have the dead patches of grass in my backyard.
My question is, should I just try and dethatch my yard in both the front and back and then use a scarifer to dig up a quarter inch of soil and overseas with *** or should I rent a power seeder to help get seed soil contact and go over all of my yard?

The third option would be to just put some 12x12x12 Down and keep cutting short to encourage spread of the ryezome? I scalped it about two weeks ago and now mowing it twice a week at the lowest setting to try and get it started.

For anything but small areas, a slit seeder is the way to go. Core aeration first might be good, depending on the soil. Agree with the other poster, looks like fungus or disease. It’s been wet and hot.
