PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting in the Spring Garden neighborhood Saturday evening.

Police believe this was not a case of random gunfire inside a short-term rental property on North 13th Street.

Neighbors helped authorities to quickly capture their suspect.

“I heard maybe 10, 11 pops right in a row. Spun my chair, looked out the window, and caught the last one or two,” said Chuck, a witness to the shooting.

Multiple witnesses on the 300-block of North 13th Street said they saw the shooting unfold around 6:19 p.m.

“He was shooting into that door aiming upwards just bang, bang, bang, bang bang. I saw him run up the street toward Callowhill, then come back bloody,” said Alex Rodriguez, a witness.

Chuck said he immediately grabbed his phone and recorded who police confirm is the suspected shooter leaving the scene with a gun in hand.

“Then it was kind of commotion. I came outside, chased him a little way up Callowhill,” said Chuck.

Chuck said the alleged shooter tried to change his appearance.

“Over on Callowhill Street, he switched clothes or rather, took off his shirt and underneath was a blood-stained white T-shirt,” said Chuck.

Bystanders said they saw the gunman leaving the building. Police said it’s a short-term rental.

Officers caught up with him at 13th and Wood and recovered his weapon.

“He looked a little bit flustered, but at the same time, pretty calm,” said a witness.

Police said two men were shot inside the building, and the violence spilled onto the street.

The victims suffered gunshot wounds to the legs.

They were taken to area hospitals, as was the suspected shooter.

“The alleged shooter was taken to an area hospital. He was allegedly assaulted,” said Captain Shaun Butts, Philadelphia Police Department.

“He might have been jumped by the individuals inside the property,” said Butts.

Investigators believe the shooting was not random.

“I believe some type of incident happened inside the property that we’re not aware of yet because none of the victims or the offender are cooperating right now,” said Butts.

Police said 11 shell casings were recovered at the scene.

Residents said the neighborhood is typically safe.

“I’ve been here a whole year, never seen anything like this. That was insane, a little nerve-wracking, to be honest, because I live right here,” said Rodriguez.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity, as they await charges.
