Sue Tapson’s Musa Basjoo is now a “waiting game” to see if it will flower and produce bananas.
Sue – who lives in Woodmancote – said: “I thought I would share with you that after weeks of intense heat and sunshine, one of my banana plants, Musa Basjoo, has now developed a flower head.
“It is now a waiting game to see if this will go on to flower and will then go on to produce some little bananas
“Apparently, these tend to flower more on the South Coast of England.”
According to BBC’s Gardeners’ World, while commonly known as the Japanese banana or hardy banana, Musa basjoo is thought to originate from the Sichuan province of China.
It is thought to be the only banana plant which can successfully be grown outside in UK gardens.
If you have an unusual plant thriving in your garden or home, the Gazette is asking for photos to be sent to letters@gazetteseries.co.uk.
