My ponytail palm’s fronds look kind of bent and scraggly. It’s next to a south facing window, I was watering it like monthly but it looked pretty dry so I’ve started watering it maybe like every couple weeks when the soil seems like it’s dried out.
I give it a nice long shower in the sink and let it dry and drain out for a few hours before putting it back in its spot.
But the center looks like new growth? Is that how that looks? So maybe it’s improving with the increased watering schedule?
I’ve never had a ponytail palm before, I wanna do right by it.

I think it looks healthy, and was a good call to up the watering frequency if the soil was drying out faster. I used to care for one in an office by a window and would water it pretty much every other week, scaling back a bit in winter when it would drink a bit slower
That is new growth! Be aware that these tend to shed some lower fronds as they push out new growth. It is normal.
I would say that every two weeks is about right, especially when it is pushing new growth, but use the soil as your guide. Use a long stick and water when it is dry all the way down.
Now may be a good time for some fertilizer.
you’re 100% right, the light green in the middle is new growth! if it’s doing well on it’s current watering schedule and putting out new leaves i’d keep watering it as you’ve been
No, it looks great! 👍
I’ve kept this species for >35 years and yours looks normal for the conditions you’re growing it under. Looks fine.
