I've had this baby for a few months and I'm really impressed with its growth rate, but lately the leaves/stems near the base have been slowly dying off. Should I be pruning it?

It looks more to me like your soil might be a little too good at retaining moisture. Do you know how long it takes for it to completely dry out between waterings? I have some string of’s that looked amazing and gorgeous until you look at where they connect to the soil, and it seemed like even though the ends loved the moisture-packed substrate, the base did not. I also read another comment recently, either here or in a related subreddit, where someone was experimenting on whether or not strings would just do better as ground cover with no tension weighing on the stems from hanging pieces. It seems like a lot of people have this problem, but I would start by adding some more drainage to your soil. Edit: I might be wrong, but are you sure that’s a string of turtles? That looks a lot more like a string of hearts to me, normally turtles are more plump all around. These leaves look like they have one convex and one concave side.

Pretty sure that’s a string of hearts, not a string of turtles, which is an entirely different type of plant.

I would recommend trimming it, which will do two things – it’ll spur new growth in other places, and you can propagate roots on the cuttings and then repot the cuttings once they have roots to get a fuller plant. Good luck!
