Glenarn Garden in Rhu will be hosting one of its highly-anticipated plant sale next weekend.
And all proceeds raised at the event on Sunday August 17 from 2pm to 5pm will go towards both Rhu &Shandon Parish Church Tower Fund and Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.
These sales don’t come around regularly, as the plants are all grown from seeds and cuttings propagated from the gardens over an extended period of time.
It all depends on what owners Sue and Mike Thornley have collected and nurtured, as to when they have sufficient for a sale to take place – typically every three years or so.
Co-owner Sue (pictured) said: “I propagate a lot of rhododendrons, including azaleas, from cuttings from unusual species or hybrids from the garden, and also acers, magnolias and various rock garden plants from seed from specialist seed exchanges.
“I also propagate unusual trees, usually from garden seed, such as hoherias, crinodendron and tree peonies, and there will be some perennials and bulbs available, too.
“On this special open day and plant sale, all takings go to charity and we will also be providing teas with homemade scones.”
Entry is £6 and children go free.
