if you are looking to renovate your backyard this one might be the perfect template for you i want to show different ways to make hardscaping look really cool i want to talk about zones and then I want to talk about a phased approach when you get a design breaking it down into phases so that it can be done one season and then another is super important this thing is going to have everything that you would ever want for a backyard let’s get into it [Music] okay walking down the path here what’s going on my name is Bobby K i’m a professional landscape designer and general contractor and I like to help residential homeowners people who are super busy create amazing outdoor spaces and how you do that you start with a design you start with a plan every single time you get into something make sure you know what you’re paying for or make sure you know what a finished product is going to look like before a shovel piece of equipment anything touches your property all right let’s get into it okay so the first thing I want to talk about is the phase this is not done we are actually going to create a new room redo the deck put the stairs over here so this is all set up so that it steps down onto here and then you go down into this first phase which we just completed so you got phase one phase two when you are doing any kind of project it’s very rare you’re going to have all the funds at one time some people do but most of us don’t right so you want to break it down into phases so that you can do one thing one season one thing another so they got phase one phase two that’s the first thing second thing let’s talk about some of that hardcaping all right so one way to make hardcaping look really really cool any kind of walkway paver space whatever is to use multiple pavers of different colors and textures we have this product right here by county and then we have these two products by county and you see that they are all different colors we’ve got a black and a brown scale because we’re going to have black railing black posts black up here and then a brown deck so the colors of the pavers are actually on purpose they’re going to go with the next phase just like the cap of the fire fire pit here is black along with the caps of the seating wall but then you see that the color of the wall is the same color as this main meat of the patio so here’s your tip play off colors play off textures and then play off of integrating different materials and inlays and borders into your hardscaping which is going to make it pop versus it being one uniform product the final thing is with landscaping you want to think about your transitions coming on down to different areas you see we did the same pavers down here so we have a zone here we have a zone up here and then of course we’re going to have this zone and then we wanted to soften everything so we’ve got a bunch of landscaping with lots of room for future plantings got a beautiful tree that just popped and then we have this dry creek that frames around the entire property and the whole point of this is we’re taking all of their downspouts all of the stuff from the gutters and we’re diverting it into here and then it connects into an underground system that goes over to the neighbors dry creek we tied that together with them with their blessing of course so now all the water is taken care of so you’ve got your zones you’ve got your hardcaping and you’ve got the softening with the landscaping [Music] okay so we talked about zones we talked about phases we talked about some hardscaping and then we even got into a little bit of color and as far as your landscaping I think less is more i like having these intimate little pops where you’ve got the meat and potatoes the main bushes but then you can speckle in your perennials annuals can always add to this putting nice curves and shapes in here dropping in some cool boulders having some transitions that go from one zone to the next zone to the next zone right that’s the whole point that’s why you start with the plan and man I will tell you all of this is lit up with pathway lights up lights on the trees under cap lights underneath the actual seating wall and then you got the fire this thing’s got everything you want there’s even a water feature where these ferns are right here that hasn’t come in yet so you got fire water landscaping hardcaping going to have the upper level lower level these are the kinds of things that start with the design start with the plan get that in place and then you can tackle something like
