We moved into our home three years ago and it was a large manicured lawn with surround woods. Over those last years, we planted blueberries, flowers of all varieties, spirea, roses, golden rod, asters, lupines, as well as clover, thyme, creeping phlox and other low ground cover (we have dogs, so safety is important).
So — my question is — what perennial wildflowers (NE region) would do well to add to what is still current “yard” and how much should you plant (we tried cosmos and I think we planted too many too close together because they didn’t do well) per sq ft to help them bloom better? Did you pull up all the ground cover and till prior to?
The goal is to have the 1.5 acres with just enough path of clover/ground cover (to mow) for walking through the rest of the yard.
I would love any and all advice on how to get the remainder covered (we have spots of full sun and spots of partial. We have about .5 acres left to seed in some way — just need to be safe for the dogs).

NE region.
Zone 5a.
Yard is mix of soil, clay deposits.
We normally have decent rain (not this year) but still get lots of morning dew to help.
