I don’t have knowledgeable advice from having grown this plant myself but if you’re going to try to propagate directly in soil, my advice in general is:

-Include a tad of cinnamon in the soil to repel fungal infection. You may want to look into this as some cinnamon that is sold is actually cassia and I don’t THINK it has the same properties, horticulturally speaking.

-Cut leaves until each branch only has 2 leaves.

-Tent with a plastic bag or better if you have it. Humidity often helps with propagation.

-Don’t plant in compost/avoid fertilizing until after rooting. Rooting hormone maybe. I keep trying but honestly I have yet to see it make a difference (have toyed with it for 2 decades). Maybe it works better if trying to root something in soil though, I wouldn’t know!

-Keep in bright/indirect light, if possible. Perhaps just morning sun, while you’re trying to get it to root.

-Once you need to re-water it, Include a thin shaving of an aspirin tablet into the water. Salicylic acid in aspirin (to my knowledge) triggers hormones in plants that help it fight off bad stuff which is great when a plant is going through shock. You may also want to look more into this one to get dosages right.

That’s all I got, for not growing ficus myself!

*If thing’s don’t work out, but you really want to propagate, you can also buy pods that you attach branches to try air layering propagation. I just got pods and haven’t tried yet myself so I don’t have more to offer there. I failed in the past trying to use plastic wrap etc so curious about these pods.
