I took some cuttings a while ago from one of my Rieger begonias and cut off the flowers from them. Since I felt sorry to throw them away, I gave them a little jar of water and plopped them next to my other plants near a LED light. A while ago I noticed roots! Hmmmm… interesting, I thought, but surely nothing will come out of it. I checked again today and lo and behold, there are tiny leaves growing! Not sure how this would help anyone since they also readily propagate from stem and leaf cutting, but I thought it might be an interesting piece of info to share. Love my begonias, they're always surprising and some of the most laid-back plants I have 😊.

Thank you so much for documenting this discovery! 💡 I always wondered whether tuberous begonias can propagate from flower stems. The thought is that, similar to the flowering stems of other plants, the flowering stems of begonias will not propagate well because the energy is used toward the flowers. Maybe tuberous begonias can also propagate from flowering stems like your Rieger.

Really interesting. I never thought you could propagate flower stems
