The Aiken Standard’s annual Home and Garden show has returned this summer for its 15th run, giving guests the chance to mingle with local home and gardening vendors from Aug. 8-9.

Some businesses featured this year include Cantey Foundation Specialists, LeafFilter, Window Depot, Pop of Colourz (floral arrangements) and food vendors such as Mrs. Bea’s Pickles and Taste of Gold Creations.

This year visitors to the event will be able to take a look at some vintage automobiles courtesy of the Aiken Model A Ford Club. That’s something Maidi Thompson, the Aiken Standard’s multimedia sales manager and an organizer of the show, said is part of an effort to bring more attractions to the event.

“Every year we try to find a good variety of home and gardening vendors to bring out. This year we decided to do a little more with the attraction side of it,” she said.

Premier Martial Arts is also scheduled to give demonstrations.

“The people are very friendly…it’s a good day trip,” said first-time visitor Patrick O’Leary as he was leaving the event.

The Aiken Standard Home and Garden show used to be held twice a year. “Since we’re not allowed to have it at the Odell Weeks center anymore, we’ve had to cut it back to one, because location is very hard to find,” Thompson said.

She noted that this is the ideal event for anyone looking to tackle a home improvement project.

“Just come out with an open mind,” she said. “If you’ve got a specific task that needs to be looked at or need to have some questions answered, this is definitely where you’re going to find them.”

Admission is $1 for ages 12 and up, and free for anyone younger. All fees will be donated to Disabled American Veterans.

The event is located at the Western Carolina State fairgrounds at 561 May Royal Drive. Parking is free.
