It took about 3 weeks for this little leaf that I plucked from my mom’s garden when I visited her to grow out its first 2 roots. I’m just so happy.

It literally flew with me on an airplane to get here. I cant wait to, one day, tell a tale about a leaf that flew thousands of miles over the sky and grow into a huge big plant in my balcony.

Well, im just happy. That’s all!

  2. Whoa! That’s so quick.

I have had mine in my propagation station for about a month now, and no luck. Did you provide it with any growth hormones or just let it be?

It took mine over a year to grow a new leaf. So, be patient with it.

Question for the experts: is it possible to grow, in time, a full new plant from this?

Will this ever be able to differentiate into the various tissues of a fully developed plant? Or will this just live as a happy, single leaf?

Leave her in water a bit longer for that rhizome to grow. I just planted my ZZ cuttings yesterday! Good luck!

It needs to have a rhizome for a new plant to come out from the leaf. Leave it in the soil. Mine was there for about 6 months after which I had small new plants growing out of it. Good luck!!!

I propagated a raven ZZ from a single leaf a little over a year ago. It looked like a shriveled up leaf in a pot and a few weeks ago I decided it was time to give up and toss it. I pulled the leaf out and surprise- rhizome! It now has a baby stalk with two very tiny leaves. Moral of the story: it will grow, but it will probably take a while. Don’t give up on it like I did!

I had fun growing zz plants from the leaves. It did take 9/10 months before I had new leaves, trying to shoot out. I started out with fourteen single leaves, all planted in a circle. But because my patience was thin, and I was so curious I’ve kept pulling the leaves out of the pot to see what they were doing so I ended up there with about 8 new stalks of ZZ plant lol.
