I am a new airplant owner who didn’t know not to soak the base. I did last week and now there’s black spots! I have it upside down in front of a fan but is this mold? How should I best treat it if so 😩
It looks like the plant has a fungal infection and the spots are likely mold. Where do you keep it?
I learned the hard way that air plants need fresh air and good air circulation. (Many, many plants perished while I figured it out 😖) Also, make sure it gets bright, indirect light. That should help!

See if taking it out of the dish helps. Put it on a porous surface or something that won’t hold moisture. It definitely needs light to fight that infection. *Filtered* light. You don’t want to go overboard and fry it in the sun (I’m guilty of overcorrecting 😖…). Fresh air – lots of it!
Try that first. You could always look at treating with fungicide if it doesn’t improve.

Best of luck! Enjoy your plant.
