Struggling with my pumpkins for the second year in a row growing them around an arch and finding them covered in mildew on my return from a week away.

Does anyone have any tips how I can avoid this or combat it?

I’ve tried some home made alkaline sprays but it doesn’t seem to be working. Grown from seed, Watered well since planting, Norfolk, UK.

Hydrogen peroxide solution at 3% diluted down 30:1 sprayed on will help.

It tells you the soil needs help.

Coconut water or aloe Vera can be given with water to help the plants immune system, ideally you want to increase the soil microbial life and help the plant that way.

Poor soil means plants are vulnerable to these diseases, there always present it can’t be helped.

On Growveg YouTube channel, they recommend spraying affected leaves with 30/70 milk/water mix (cow’s milk)

SBPI sprayed weekly is the only thing that works for me. Potassium carbonate and copper sulphate are sold as antifungals but they are hit and miss and seem to be species dependent for efficacy.

Milk has worked for me. Spray bottle with half milk half water and cover every leaf under and over. Hydrogen peroxide can burn the leaves if it’s sunny.
