I submerged the broken bit in some
water and supported the weight with some string. Is there anything I can do to save it? And what should I do with the remaining stem to prevent rot from spreading to the rest of the plant?

she gets plenty of light and grows fast but I didnt do the support right and she became too top heavy and crooked.

regular houseplant soil + eggshells and miraclegrow

thanks in advance 😞

If it just broke and there isn’t already rot on the stem it will just form new buds, you can even cut the stem back more if you want so the trunk isn’t so long. The cutting will likely root, but I would probably give it a clean cut at the bottom of the stem. The stem should be pretty strong unless it is leggy and reaching for light.

Don’t bother supporting the portion that remains in the pot. Prune it back to a couple of inches above the soil. This will signal the plant to create new shoots from the soil, or branches on the stem.

Good luck with the portion you put in water, nobody can predict what will happen there.

  3. I suspect based on my limited experience with this plant that the part in water will probably root but it may take approximately the same amount of time it takes to grow a baby!
