Large tree was removed and we need to fill this prior to listing it.

Do not want to use heavy equipment. Would be best way be, getting a few guys and a loak of fill dirt. Wheel it down, get down 1-2ft of fill, tamp it down and repeat until satisfied?

Yes. That hole is not anywhere near big enough to need equipment beyond a wheelbarrow. Get some dirt delivered on a tarp on the driveway. That makes it easy to clean up at the end.

Best way to fill a hole is to put something into the hole

Yes. Wheelbarrow is the best way to do it for the least amount of damage.

Hole looks big enough for a ten ton load of fill dirt or sand? Hard to measure from picture….

And looking at your second picture, im still going with 10 yards minimum to properly grade that spot, or it will continue to be a frog pond.

Fill it with melted Velveeta and bacon bits. Bathe in it daily for baby soft skin.

Can a truck drop off dirt to back of house right on the hole? Have them drop dirt right on that spot and just level it with a shovel. I did this recently in my yard… it’s easy. Guessing maybe 2-3 yards needed.

I’d first get some fill, small stone, tamp then put topsoil or sod

A few neighborhood kids, a few shovels, some dirt delivered on the drive, a wheelbarrow and a some $20 bills. Tell them if they do a good job they’ll get free beer. If they do a good job serve up the $20s and some root beer.

Couple bags of dirt from Lowe’s, and a plant or two. Or grass seed. Or a cement fire ring. Or a pile of sticks that are for having, not for burning.

Pond. The hole’ll probs sink more anyway.

  11. First of all it’s already filled with air, so Replace the air with dirt then hide the dirt with grass so no one misses the air.

Level it out with top soil, sprinkle seed on and mix in, cover, water religiously for a few weeks.

Back in the day you could just fill it with old car batteries, but some smarty brains decided that’s “astonishingly dangerous” and “hastening the fall of humanity” and “a waste of money anyway, just turn them in for the return money”.

Sometimes dirt helps. Or just park an old car on top.

This is a great example of how varied knowledge and opinions are on here. We are talking about filling a hole. A relatively small one and in a non complicated spot.

Don’t fill it. Plant water loving plants like hosta or elephant ears. If it holds a lot of water even a lotus may grow there.

Use it to install some native understory plants, medium sized perennials. Anything that would normally grow under the type of tree that died, because that will be best adapted to cope with the decay of the tree roots. Other things to think about, select plants that like more water than what you normally get, since that hole looks like it will catch water. It’s an opportunity to give the new homeowner a specimen plant with some visual interest and proper ecological role.
