Not all flowers are safe to eat. If you’re growing edible blooms, there’s one mistake that could make them toxic. In this short video, I’ll show you how to keep your garden organic and food-safe — and how to avoid pesticide-packed petals.

Here’s the number one mistake with edible flowers. You might be making it. Edible flowers are so gorgeous and they’re showing up everywhere on cakes, in cocktails, even on shakuerie boards. But most people are grabbing these from the grocery store or the florist. Bad idea. Most of those flowers are drenched in pesticides and they’re not safe to eat. And even if you have a green thumb, you might still be making this mistake. Some home gardeners still use bug sprays or synthetic fertilizers. That stuff lingers on the petals and it’s not food safe, even if the flower is technically edible. So, the safest bet is to stick to flowers you’ve grown yourself organically. No spray, no synthetic fertilizer. Just dig in your garden, cut some flowers, and enjoy. If you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry. You can always just buy organic flowers from your local farmers market. Make sure they’re pesticidefree. Some common edible flowers include netorium, chundula, and vio. But always do your homework before you eat any wild blooms. Comment below. Do you grow flowers organically?
