Welcome to my video journal following my new life in Wales after 25 years living in London. A career in television and film took me to London but in my 40’s I became disillusioned with the industry. It took many years of soul searching to realise that I craved a quieter life, a slower pace amongst a rural environment, ideally in the mountains and living off the land by a stream. My health over the past decade hasnโt been great so am aiming to reduce my body weight and become fitter and healthier as my 50’s progress. As a child I loved the television series The Waltons and in my own way Iโm recreating my own John Boyโs journal. So feel free to follow my journey as I aim to become as self-sufficient as possible and learning from the old skills along the way.

When I first started working underground, an old collier told me that "a lock will only stop an honest man". Most locks can be broken or worked around
I think that is a good idea treat yourself to a new shed the other one is in a good place and I think a new will be good for the future as your allotment develops we have all been waiting a long time to see your greenhouse put together we are looking forward to that day I hope the wood is not to twisted out of shape when that day eventually arrives that must be one thing you miss with your old allotments having other people around to help you and have a chat to I bet sometimes you feel lonely and must miss them sometimes. I only came across your channel when you moved to The Valleys I used to live around that area so I love seeing this channel and when you're out and about and seeing the old shops streets brings back nice memories for me โค
I was just thinking back about the first allotment you were offered on the side of that sloping mountain . Can you imagine all that hard work and especially with your ailment . It was a miracle when you were offered your new allotment .God moves in mysterious ways . And I must say what is beautiful red rose ๐น. Take care Sean with your lower back ๐ซโ.
Sean do you have to pay extra for electricity on your homestead
Sean why dont you just work on the homestead in the week and take the weekend off to relax and go for a drive a walk or read a book
Hello Sean
the saying take care of your tools and your tools will take care of you could also apply to your body, good to know you are listening to your body to help keep your back in check and not over do things.
I love when you go to the homestead in the evening as there always seems to be a ray of sunlight that beams down across the summerhouse! ๐
Well done for losing the 8lb!
Take care Sean ๐
I know I said it before, the positive effect of coffee enema is unbelievable until you try it. Especially if you have inflammatory issues.
You are a plan maker.
I found that if I donโt bring treats into my home, I am much more successful in my weight loss goals- ๐ who knew?! Good on you as you make your way! I hope you keep moving and sharing your journey with us- it is a very bright spot in my morning! Thank you!
I thought you were having solar power down there? Did i dream that or did you give up on the idea?
Busy busy Sean
Great flog today Sean I'm always moving things around in my back garden. Nice to see you are now enclosed in your own space. Hope your back is not to bad take it easy ๐
I always say , I spend most of my time moving things from one place to another, clothes to the washing machine, then the line to dry, then back in the cupboard , shopping is the same ..around and around
๐๐
Take care Sean, do hope you haven't done to much. ๐
Bore da Sean from the mountain town of Running Springs, CA! Iโm so sorry for all you are dealing with between your back and chronic fatigue syndrome. I myself, live with fibromyalgia and know the frustration of the constant battle between body and mind. I pray that August will be a better month for you all the way around!!
Well done on the 8lbs weight loss, so difficult when you love your food, so Iโm not surprised about the 3 lb you put back on all in the name of research with the air fryer, I lack motivation when itโs warm, have another cuppa tea I say, when I was in Wales I enjoyed a slice of bara brith, jeepers that was so good and it was served with a small pot of butter, delicious, so I might try and make some one day,
Little and often gets the job done on the homestead, have a rest and enjoy the beautiful Welsh mountains, best wishes, Lisa
As best as you know how Sean?
I think you are doing BRILLIANT ,(ly)
enjoyable video sean
Hi Sean. What are the best potatoes to grow ready for Christmas?
The kitchen mold wall might be best coated first will kilz primer to coat and stop the mold….before painting green…the Kilz coat primer could also be used to go over the orange test paint patches in the bathroom, to even out the wall color before painting the color you choose…
Hello Sean, enjoying your videos, thank you for sharing.๐๐
Sitting shelling peas and watching Sean. Feels like an allotment visit lol
Yes the garden will tell you what it wants and when it wants it. I enjoy your approach and your honesty. We are harvesting zucchini here in Philadelphia, PA. Iโm up to my eyeballs in making and freezing zucchini bread. Thank you for sharing your garden itโs looks so peaceful!
Trying to figure out where you want to put things, at your homestead, reminds me of myself & my kitchen. I love to cook, but I'm always moving things around…I don't think I'll ever stop, because once I have it where I think it should be, I find I need more room in that place. It's all OK though, it's always evolving & I can live with that. I think as long as you are enjoying your homestead & letting the garden figure things out, with you, then it will become yours to enjoy. Isn't that what it's all about, anyway? Thanks so much for sharing, Sean. Blessings to you & your kitties. ๐โฅ๐พ
what about a recliner for the summer house then it doesnt matter where it is situated
You are doing fine Sean. Make sure you look after yourself in all ways.๐
I do hope your back improves. Our weather keeps changing and it gives me quite a bit of pain and stiff joints, but I'm older. Work slowly and if you want take something for inflammation. A little bit of ibuprofen takes the edge off pain, but still must respect our body's limitations. That was a cold night. Weather is variable pretty much everywhere in the world this year. Twinges are not to be ignored! โก
How about a small wood burner in the summer house? It would be cozy in the autumn. I would definitely tidy up the summerhouse, put some shelves up and a nice throw on your chair. Just think a warm cup of tea while reading a book and watching the birds outside using your bird feeders. You can turn your summer house into a lovely little comfy place to escape to ๐ป๐๐ซ
For everyone who comments on anything about the garden and Sean, it is best to remember that he has been involved with gardening for the better part of 40 years. He has built greenhouses, planted almost everything, worked with hundreds of other gardeners, seen successes and failures galore, and knows an awful lot. I also love that he doesnโt mind taking his time and living with a seeming mess, all while accomplishing small tasks along the way. Only one single and simple thing has been of the utmost importance. He adopted Ollie and takes beautiful care of his cats, living creatures who he is providing a wonderful home for. The rest will all fall into place and look great because of all his experience. Love seeing it all evolve.
Weโve had some very unexpectedly cool night-time temps here in central Canada as wellโฆnot normal for mid-summer, and the records support that.
It can be difficult to figure out where garden structures go until youโve been in a place for at least a year or two. Good luck moving the shed and greenhouse. The thing about gardens is that theyโre always in a state of flux, so no point worrying about perfection. ๐โค
..yes, regarding the space between..๐
I am a new subscriber and have fallen into the habit of having your videos keep my company while doing chores like trying to sew up my gardening gloves. Your kitchen videos fascinate me because my old house has a too big kitchen and yours is wonderfully compact. You speak about having things visually available…have you ever considered removing the cupboard doors directly above your work area? Have you ever thought about how much time you spend opening and closing those doors? Just curious.
Sean, I saw the post about allotment sales. Does that apply to just England, or does it include Wales?
Sean: great intro. I do appreciate how honest you are. I'm constantly feeling overwhelmed when I watch some YouTube channels but not yours. In the real world there's more people like you and me. Getting along just fine in a not so perfect world. Keep plugging along and it will all come together beautifully. Please take care of yourself. ๐

Hi Sean, hope your back is improving now.
Good you've got the fencing up though that will help keep Olly safe.
I think the finished summerhouse inside will look fab – always good to have a plan. ๐๐ป
