Alexa, put a timer on for an hour. Good afternoon, Jade. 1 hour starting now. Hi, I’m Jade. I’m 45 and I live with my two dogs on a little island off the coast of North Wales. I have a grown-up son who’s currently in Australia on a year’s working visa. I miss him so much, but the feeling of pride outweighs this tenfold. I grew up in a single parent household with my mom. I never knew my dad. He left to live in the States when I was a baby and broke contact. When I was 15, my mom was diagnosed with non-hodkins lymphoma, a terminal cancer. She passed away when I was 20, 9 months after I gave birth to my son. Those years are a blur. Grief tangled up with the chaos of becoming a young man. I’m not sharing this for sympathy, but because it’s a huge part of what shaped me. Sometimes people see me as strong and independent, but honestly, some people don’t have a choice. You have 10 minutes left. A lot of us are fighting battles nobody else sees. Strength isn’t always loud or obvious. It’s often built quietly in the moments when you keep going simply because you have to. We all have chapters that shape us, even if no one else reads them. And sometimes getting up, carrying on and choosing to keep moving forward is its own kind of victory.

  6. What are some things that people did for you in those years of fresh grief and being a young mum?
One of my closest friend lost her mum just before her first child so I'd love any input of things that made a difference/helped etc. Xxxx

  7. Thank you for your story, I so much resonate with the string and independent comment. It is for some the reality, not a choice.
