I have no problem paying for a professional job to be done. But the two quotes are so far apart, I was hoping to get some confirmation on what would be reasonable.

Thanks!

For clean ups like this we charge hourly.
I would be estimate 2 people for 2 hours plus chemicals
So all in you would be around $275-$300.
And that’s just to kill and remove weeds and trim up and bushes.
    If there mulch it’s $130 a yard
Plus on some thing that size edging is another $150-$175

I would be wary of that low bid. Find out from both how many hours they estimate the job taking and how much mulch (and what kind) they are going to use.

  3. Sonofbluekane

I assume for that price the mulch will be made out of your hedges passed through a lawn mower

  4. Certain-Slip3745

$120 is going to cut it all down with a string trimmer the. cover with 1 inch of mulch

  5. Impressive-Sky-7006

In my area $120 wouldn’t pay for the mulch.

  6. golfingsince83

I’m surprised the high bid is that low honestly. There’s a lot of work to be done there

  7. Random-8865

That $450 one honestly seems more legit. That low one is probably some “handy man” or someone just wanting to make a quick buck. I would personally charge anywhere from $3-400 for that, plus the cost of mulch.

you are going to be paying for this to be weeded and mulched for the rest of eternity. what you need to do instead is buy a ton of evergreen, low growing, ground covering plants that will cover up everything naturally. it will look better and will mean hardly anything for you to maintain.

  9. Yea not enough money for even the mulch. Go with the $450

  10. stonesnstuff

Low bid needs the work, high bidder probably hates weeding and has other work

  11. co_hykas_jak_somar

I woulnd’t even start my truck for 120$ job

  12. Latter-Assignment845

@ $40 an hour there ain’t no way. If it’s just some day labor guy at $25-$30 maybe but $500 look more than reasonable.

  13. Key_Piccolo_2187

I agree with everyone else. You can’t get the material to do the mulch work for $120.

I’d do this myself (get an action hoe and you’d make massively quick work of it) but if it wasn’t in the cards, for $450 I’d think it might get done well, for $120 I’d be sure it’s complete shit.

I’d rather spend $450 than light $120 on fire.

  14. Probably down to a) the amount of time and care and b) the quality of mulch they’re planning to use.

I don’t think you can expect a professional job for $120.

  15. Keizman55

Our town has free mulch, I guess from their tree work. I’ve heard that it is full off weeds and bugs, so maybe your low quote is using some kind of free or cheap mulch? That price is just way too low to be legit imo.

  16. Both don’t seem legit at all. Prob at least $800 worth of work

  17. Walka_Mowlie

I would ask both for references, as well as photos of other jobs they’ve completed and I’d call those references and ask them if they’re happy with the completed job that was done for them. And, I’d want no less than 3 references each. (I’ve been ripped off before and have learned my lesson.)

  18. Ok-Scarcity-5754

I would consider both a steal. Last time I got quotes for a flower bed refresh it was a thousand bucks and that was three years ago

  19. Local_Doubt_4029

$120 is just labor and u buy mulch …….$450 is turn key.

  20. KnowledgeWeekly1964

Anyone bidding less the 400 is taking short cuts. Unless you provide mulch and then its still likely too cheap. When I was in highschool 30 years ago that woukd be 400 if I provided mulch.

  21. Turbulent-Ad-6845

    Honest answer

    $800 dollar job …$450 is a steal

$120 …..Someone needs to buy another bag of weed, hoping his bid wins

  22. HelpfulPersimmon6146

That low bid wouldn’t even cover the mulch.

  23. Ill-Supermarket2308

$120 guy – “Those aren’t weeds, that’s just planter grass.”

  24. farmerbsd17

One doesn’t want to do it and the other does. Why would that be? Get a third quote

  25. BreadMaker_42

120 isn’t enough to weed and mulch that. The 450 seems much more reasonable. That looks like a couple of hours of work.

  26. AccomplishedDog7165

Doubtful that $120 would even cove the cost of mulch.

  27. mechshark

the 120 one is probably gonna weedwack the weeds down and then just throw the mulch over them lol

  28. AbbreviationsFit8962

The cost of mulch alone is more than $120
