In this video I am moldboard plowing under a cover crop of winter wheat in my garden. I am using my Massey Ferguson GC1725 tractor and a one bottom plow I recently picked up at an auction. I had the power to do the job but not so good on the traction. In the end I did get it all plowed and once it dried out I went over it with my roto tiller. Now that it is leveled out I will let it get a rain then once dried out I will till it and start planting vegetables.

well it’s springtime here things are starting to green up and it’s time to think about getting the garden ready to plant last fall I seated a cover crop of winter wheat on my garden first thing I want to do is mboard plow the garden and bury that cover crop of wheat i picked this one bottom plow up at an auction last week i think the massie will pull it i am going to pull the mower deck off though because once I cut my furrow I think that mower deck will probably be scraping that furrow so that’s going to be pretty simple to pop off there looks like a couple spring-loaded pins and a drive shaft pretty simple just unhook the drive shaft then there’s four of these spring-loaded pins you pull out and then there’s a linkage thing that goes up here that mounted up front i pulled that out tractor and raise the linkage up out of the way and I believe you just actually back right over this but I might just try to pull it out sideways we’ll see that gearbox might be in the way simple i just uh backed right over it i figured I’d shine that bottom up a little bit get that paint and rust off of [Music] [Applause] [Music] there heat [Applause] [Music] up here [Music] [Music] it was a tough job but I got the garden all plowed up now let it dry out a little bit i’ll run over it with the roat tiller and start planting some sweet corn and some of the early crops not the best plowing job in the world i had the power i just didn’t have the traction but I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish here after it dried out I hit it with the roat tiller smoothed it up now I will let it set here get rained on once hit it again and then I should be able to start planting stuff

  1. Mike I've heard it's hard to get single forrow ploughs to penetrate especially Ferguson type mind you that's on hard baked clay and mostly used behind a Ferguson type tractor and at ploughing matches.

  2. Nothing beats the simplicity of a one-bottom plow for garden prep — low tech, high reward… Old-school still gets it done! 🚜👍

  3. Mike We used an 8n Ford with a 2 bottom plow on our garden & the next year I used an 856 with a 6 bottom plow in the same garden , must have been a little larger than I thought . Was almost an acre and a half but had to get in to work the ground . Great videos Sir

  4. Going far too fast. Ploughing is not about speed. It’s all about burying the trash (green) and turning it over successfully. You haven’t achieved that ! You will also blow the trans on that wee Massey.
