YORK COUNTY, Maine — The Seacoast Garden Club gathered in June to induct new officers and usher in a fresh season of leadership.
Elected to serve two-year terms as co-presidents, Judy Puddester and Diane Israelson will succeed outgoing leaders Jan Ferland and Donna Gaylord.
Seacoast Garden Club Co-Presidents Diane Israelson and Judy Puddester were elected in June to lead the club through a new two-year term.
In accepting their new roles, the incoming co-presidents emphasized the welcoming nature of the club and its evolving mission.
“We are honored to have been elected as the new co-presidents of the Seacoast Garden Club,” they said in a joint statement. “We were both new to the area, and the club provided opportunities to meet new friends, get involved with the community, and expand our knowledge of gardening.”
Looking ahead, they aim to broaden perceptions of what a garden club offers.
“Not only flower arranging and gardens, but through our programs we are educating ourselves and the community about climate change, native plants, invasive species, endangered species and soil health,” they said.
Another goal is to grow membership, which would allow the club to expand its service activities, volunteer efforts, and social events. An open meeting planned for November will feature a guest speaker who is a local garden consultant, designer, and author.
Also elected to serve are Co-Vice Presidents Kathie Read and Sylvia Marusarz, Recording Secretary Ann Durham, Treasurer Sally Cuskley, and Corresponding Secretary Pat Georges.
