Have about 30 house plants and trees, some are more charred than others… is it worth trying? Many of them were 10 years old…

im so sorry!! I cant imagine.
I dont know the second plant very well but are there any roots left in the pothos? im also not sure what happens if they’re exposed to smoke, but I wonder if, if there’s roots left, it could come back.

  4. forluvoflemons

Terrible. Im so sorry. I hope you and family are ok.

  5. I had a house fire a few years back – those plants are likely gone but you can try to see if any of the roots are still good and try. I washed all of mine down to bare roots and then repotted in new soil. Also, I know this isn’t going to bring your plants back, but you can list them as items lost to insurance and then recover the costs to buy new ones. I went to the nursery and found the replacement cost of the ones that didn’t survive and got the money back for them.

Cut the second one at the stem near the soil and see if it’s still green/wet inside. If it is, it might have a shot. Given the extent of the fire damage, I’d be shocked if they could be brought back, but it’s worth 2 seconds of your effort.

    Sorry for your loss.

Cut off the dead and burned pieces..
    Care for them as usual..
It’ll take a while but they will grow

You do know many of these environments have forest fires, and they grow back

I think they only thing you can do is chop down to the roots and see what grows 😭 there’s no hope for any of the burned leaves and stems sadly

I saw your post earlier about your banister. I’m still sad about the kitty. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

If you’re in RI or MA or close by I can donate plants!!

  11. paperbackintrovert

I would repot them all and check the roots! Its def worth a try if you loved them!

  12. I’m so sorry and not just about the plants. I can’t imagine the stress and devastation after a house fire. Sending good vibes your way❤️

OP, if you’re in the US and don’t mind waiting a bit for the weather to cool off a tad, I would be happy to send you cuttings. Please DM me if you’re interested! I’m so sorry this happened to you.

  15. ExcitementWorldly769

So sorry about this. I hope everyone is ok. I’d say, hold on to them for a few months. Maybe if there are roots they will come back?

  16. S0ngbyrd_J0nes

OMG I am so sorry this happened to you. I have plants I am regularly choppin and proppin and I am more than happy to send you some. DM me.
As for whether they’re dead or not, if it’s nice there, set them outside and keep watering and see what happens. Who knows.
I’m so sorry again. My heart goes out to you.

I don’t have any advice to give. Just wanted to send you good vibrations, so sorry this happened

  18. Pretty_Goblin11

Awe. I’m so sorry. I think the pothos is done for. The other one looks like the trunks didn’t burn… maybe you can prune it and somehow force some life back into it.

  19. flyingpiggos

So sorry to hear. I’m glad you’re okay though. Maybe see if any of the roots have a bit of life, or if any of them had seeds?

  20. I don’t have any advice but I’m so sorry about your home and plants. </3

  21. AffectionateSun5776

Unfortunately I’d say no. I went through this last year. Lost over 40 plants. I’m still waiting on the rebuild but I have started to grow my collection again.

Even ones that looked okay had to be trashed imo. They will absorb the toxins from the smoke. New growth can have these toxins in it as well. Also the soot from a fire is tacky and acidic. It doesn’t wash off with dawn dish soap. The smell is really sickeningly strong like burnt chemicals, well because it is burnt chemicals. It’s incredibly hard, and in some cases impossible to get the smell out.

I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t try to keep any. You would have to strip them to bare root and try to clean off the sticky residue of burnt chemicals. The plant likely wouldn’t make it or wouldn’t be “clean.”

  28. I’d just keep watering them all for a month or two, to see what happens

  29. oldsoulyoungishbody

Omg how did the fire start?!?. You should check if the roots are still intact if the roots are I don’t see why they can’t rebloom.

  30. cargopantscheesecake

Omg how I audibly gasped. These pics nearly brought me to tears. Sending prayers 🙏🏽

If you happen to be in my city OP Id gladly share some cuttings/plants.

I am so sorry for what happened, I cannot imagine the devastation you and your family are feeling. You have a beautiful home, and I am sure it will be back to being just as gorgeous as before. I truly hope your family and everyone is okay. Sending hugs and light to you 💚 also, the tree most likely can come back, and I can’t tell with the wall plant but if the roots are not charred I am sure they can regenerate. Once again, I am so sorry – sending you so much love!

  32. dyingstarss

oh no i’m so sorry 🙁 i hope you and your babies come to good health soon.

  33. lilbookofmeow

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Hope you and your loved ones got out unharmed.

  34. JukeBex_Hero

I am so sorry. Unearth the babies and check the roots. If any seem moist, or bend/flex rather than snapping/splitting when bent, I’d hold out hope and keep watering. I’m not a professional, just an optimist who believes that most things can bounce back.

    You’ll bounce back too. 💜

  35. wheresbeetle

Oh gosh I’m so sorry 😢….are you anywhere near eastern PA I’ll give you a couple of mine…. 🤗

  36. larka1121
