Hi Everyone. Can someone please help me identify this plant? There used to be a dead tree here last year that was pulled out. This year, this plant has grown in its place. I originally thought it was a weed but then it started growing white and blue flowers and spikey bulbs.

Just want to know what plant this is and if it’s dangerous to children walking by.

Location is Maryland, USA.

Thanks in advance!

It is poisonous to ingest. If you have small children or pets I’d pull it out. Google Jimsonweed, Datura stramonium. It has an interesting history.

  2. Datura. Extremely poisonous, and prone to being abused by stupid teens every once in a while. I’d pull it.

Those childrens’ parents should educate them on not putting random shit in their mouths. I’d keep it. It’s a beautiful Datura that is beneficial to the local ecosystem.

It’s invasive in areas of the US, so I’d pull it with gloves on. I’m not 100% sure if it’s invasive in Maryland, but considering it’s invasive in Connecticut, I’d say so.
