It was sold for 40k when it debuted in a Thailand Plant show…

Tbh… I don’t like the mints and co. They all look a bit weak in the leaves. I don’t understand the hype beyond classic variegata and Thai. It’s just not worth it at all.

To be fair, prices are all meaningless. How much a plant is worth comes down to how hard it is to get where you are and how much you’re willing to pay for it.
When it’s a new or rare variety, it’s going to be as expensive as they can get away with.
It’s why they tend to get cheaper over time. More availability and more sellers competing with each other.

I saw somewhere discussing the reason for the prices like this when there is only one mother plant. It’s basically priced for the big TC businesses to get to it first so that will TC them out and then mass sell them for whatever price. Who knows if that’s true or not though, I guess it makes sense.
🤷♀️. Im so sick of all the monstera hybrids, though, tbf.

Haha wait until you see the price for the initial tissue culture batch. No guarantee of being able to TC your purchase either. There is a cost to being first in the plant game.
Really ironic Reddit is bitching about this one because the entire “rare” plant industry relies on exorbitant pricing and scarcity or else that “rare” plant in your house is just another $12 exotic you can get at Lowe’s. Do you want everyone to have a Thai constellation or do you want an “ultra rare” Thai constellation that nobody else has? Would you like to pay the opportunity cost to be first?

And here I thought that paying €27 was way too much for my regular monstera.

When yall see a plant like this sell like this, remember: when costa farms gets their grubby hands on it they will make multitudes more and the original grower won’t see a dime (unless they can manage to patent it in the US)

Depends on where you live. That converts to over $36k in U.S. dollars.
When was that Thai plant show? Last month? If it was last year then they’re still milking it. But there will always be arrogant spenders too.

The Plant Purge USA group on Facebook is insane – I see prices like this all the time and higher. I genuinely don’t know how people afford it. Although, a lot of the sellers offer payment plans. Who’s doing a payment plan for plants??? I guess it could be argued it’s a good investment, but they seem to only drop in price, not go up.
HelloTriKat
You can put any price you want on any thing. Doesn’t mean it’s gonna sell for that.
