Last year my neighbor planted evergreen trees and suddenly my grass is starting to die. I haven't sprayed the fence line and I see no reason for him to spray his. I do also have a female dog, but the coincidence would be uncanny that she would only pee where there tree line starts and ends. Stumped.

  1. Is he using an herbicide to regulate weeds around the trees?

Your neighbor is spraying the fence line and the grade is pushing it into your yard.  He also planted those arborvitae about 5 feet too close to the fence and way too close together.

I would suspect he’s spraying around his trees

  4. Could it be allelopathy, where the tree inhibits the growth of other plants? What trees are they?

From a functional perspective, it might be great if nothing is able to grow under the fence (easier to maintain)

What many people don’t know, evergreens can kill grass around it. The acid in the needles that fall makes conditions not favorable for some grasses to grow.

Every perimeter of everything on your neighbors side has the same thing happening. I agree with a previous poster. Your neighbor has the answer.

Will what your neighbor is spraying kill bastard pecans? I want it.

No idea, but if the issue is out of your control and you need a fix, apply Turf Paint every three months. Truly magical stuff.

Those green giants are going to be pushing into your yard pretty soon, I’m not sure why he planted them so cramped together. They can get up to 15 feet wide. Also, notice how the grass is still alive towards the end where the arborvitae stop? I agree with everyone saying the neighbor is probably spraying something for weeds.

    >I see no reason for him to spray his

Have you asked him? Because, reason or not, I’d bet that he’s sprayed it.

Dogs like to pee on trees, makes sense to me that your dog is marking territory.

Look in the back of his lot. He’s edged everything with Roundup.

Are your spots dead grass or dirt? Does your dog walk/run the fence line much? I’m in no way an expert, but, if it is dirt, these look just like the paths around my fence where my dogs run and grass won’t grow in completely.

My suggestion is a few cups of rock salt at the base of those evergreen’s next time it rains should do the trick 🪖

As everyone has said from but from experience it’s the neighbor

You are going to have a bigger problem than the grass in 2 years.

Army worms. Your neighbors grass will soon start to look the same.

it was a real windy day when he sprayed the fenceline.

The color of the fence is dark. It’s taking in more heat from the hotter days we’ve been having.

It’s reflecting said more heat onto the grass killing it.

You need some additional water or a different color.

    This is 100% a guess.

Boomer cocksucker neighbor using roundup. Send him to the pits.

This is why neighbor’s fight to the death 10 out of 63 times

  23. First-Ad-2777

Set up a camera if the neighbor claims ignorance over their spraying

But in a few years your fence will be pushed over and you will be up for trimming chores

  24. Sad_Contribution2696

I do the same along all my fences but I own both sides of the fence

  25. DefinitelyNWYT

Would expect he’s applying too much glyphosate either on the fence, on that mulch, or used a mulch with herbicide preapplied.

  26. AlternativeRing5977

Could be that the fence is a heat absorber and is raising the adjacent temperature beyond what the grass can adapt to. Appears to be the case too near the fence in his background fence.

  27. Informal_Disaster_62

Probably an over spray. Just talk to your neighbor and point it out. It happens sometimes, I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. Mention applying it with a nozzle that has a higher flow rate. These are bigger droplets that don’t mist as much. Low rate nozzles and Mist nozzles are notorious for over spraying because the wind just takes it. The bigger droplets can be applied more accurately.

He just trying to keep the fence line clear and weeds from his new landscaping I’d guess. Time for a friendly chat with the neighbor. Beautiful yard.

Neighbor and/or his landscapers are dumbasses

  30. No_Lifeguard4092

In my state, that’s called property damage depending on where the shared property line is located. If he sprayed his grass, that’s one thing. If he sprayed yours (even accidental overspray when it was windy), that’s a criminal offense.

Looks like moles tunneling, they love fence rows
