Hi, so I found this guy next to the dumpster at my apartment complex and hoped that I could help him, but I don’t know what kind it is or where to even start

Not sure what kind of cactus but if I brought this home I’d chop and prop the right side after the base thickens up and probably discard the rest. I don’t see the right side ever being able to stand on its own from due to the skinny base it has. Likely from lack of sunlight at one point.

If it were me I would cut the top 2/3 and start a new one

Hell of a find there. These actually might be two different species judging by rib count and spine density. They could stand to be divided into separate pots if this is the case, and the one on the right looks like it might benefit from getting cut and propagated where it starts to thicken up. This will allow the pups at the base to fill in, and you get a bonus cactus out of it.

I think left is parodia and right is stestonia coryne
enterobias
Right looks like Stenocereus pruinosus or polaskia chichipe

Parodia and Chichipie. The chichipe usually grow with a thick bottom to top. Especially at that size. Like the other comments, cut and keep top 2/3, dry it out and plant. No water.

Cut the top 2/3’s, let it callous then plant it. Don’t wast the good root stock, that thing was pumping pretty good, graft something onto it or let the pups take all the energy. Nice find!
