Hello, my garden friends. In today’s video, I’m going to share five tips that make gardening easier for us seniors. Yep, I’m 62 years old, a senior myself. So, I’m the first to understand that gardening is not as easy as it used to be. But that’s okay because these five tips make it easier, more enjoyable, and safer. And I will also include a special bonus tip at the end of this video. my absolute favorite tip of all. So, I hope they help you in your garden, too. Tip number one, I highly recommend you start gardening in raised or elevated garden beds. Do you notice how I’m standing straight? This garden bed enables me to garden comfortably without me straining my back or bending over. Also, these raised beds, although is not as elevated as this one, it’s still a lot easier than gardening in the ground. Now, I understand that not everybody can afford those fancy raised beds, but look at this. This is just a cheap plant stand that I bought at the thrift store, and I have a pot sitting in it. Again, I’m not bending over. Tip number two. Now, if you have to bend over, I still bend over in garden. I highly recommend you get a really nice knee pad. I absolutely love this and this makes all the difference in the world because you know my knees hurt and this enables me to stay on the ground a lot longer. However, if you can’t afford a knee pad right now, that’s okay. This is what I was using before my girlfriend gifted me with this. I just bought this seat cushion at the thrift store and this worked just as good. So, I highly recommend you protect your knees when you do have to get down and dirty on the ground. Tip number three, use tools with longer handles. Instead of using this fork, use this one. And this will enable me to clean out my garden a lot easier without bending as far and putting more strain on my back. I have to bend a lot further with this smaller one. So, this longer handle definitely makes my gardening easier. Also, instead of using this shovel, use this shovel. Now I know it’s bigger, but I won’t have to bend as far or work as hard. This one I have to get in the dirt more and get closer and I am putting more strain on my back with that one. So longerandled tools is very smart for us seniors. Speaking of tools, and this brings me to tip number four. It’s so smart and convenient if you keep your tools close by. So, you don’t always have to walk around the garden or go into a shed or your garage to get them. Let me show you some ideas what I’m talking about. A lot of gardeners refer to these cute little containers as mailbox put out through your garden. So, if I have my pruners and my gloves and anything I need, you can find a creative place to put your little mailbox at your garden’s reach, so it’s always available for you wherever you’re gardening. Decorative pots and watering cans also make a convenient and very cute way to keep your tools on hand. Maybe I’ll keep my little garden stash of tools right here so it’s easy at my reach. The whole idea is to keep your tools within gardening reach so you’re not looking for them in a garage because we don’t want to be gardening and have to leave our garden to go into the garage and find them. So, it’s a convenient way to always have them by your side. Tip number five, and this is one of my favorites because this is the most helpful to me as a senior. Besides protecting yourself from the heat, I suggest wearing sun hats and keeping yourself hydrated because when the sun is off of me and I’m hydrated, I find myself able to stay out in the garden longer. However, there’s one more part of this tip that I’ve applied to my own style of gardening. It’s okay to not be out in the garden for hours at a time. Even if you’re just out in the garden for 10 minutes, 10 minutes in the garden is better than no minutes in the garden. So, as a senior, I find myself getting tired a lot sooner. And I’ve learned to tell myself it’s okay. And I allow myself to say it’s okay to be a senior and not be out in the garden for as long as I used to. So limit yourself and own it and be okay with it. And just know that you’re not alone. I get tired, too. So protect yourself from the heat. Stay hydrated and limit yourself and be okay with it. Now, I want to share my favorite tip of all. This is the bonus tip and something I’ve kind of incorporated into my garden a lot more. I’ve actually incorporated a lot more succulents into my garden. Before you start saying, “Oh, I hate succulents.” Let me just tell you something that’s so wonderful about them. I don’t have to water them except maybe once a week. They don’t require any maintenance. I don’t do anything to them. And they’re so easy and they always look beautiful. Here’s more succulents over here. I feel the foliage adds so much color to a garden and because they are extremely lowmaintenance. That’s why I have incorporated more of them into my garden. Let’s face it, we always want blooms for color. But, you know, there’s something special about foliage, too. Look at all the yellow I have in here. So, I highly recommend maybe you grow more succulents or at least consider it. They are super easy. And I think for us seniors, aren’t we looking for easier gardening? Well, I know I am. And these succulents have definitely done the trick for that. Well, I hope you enjoyed today’s video, and perhaps you found these gardening for senior tips helpful to you as well. Thanks for watching.

Hello garden friends! I would LOVE to hear YOUR gardening for senior tips… i know there are so many and I am probably forgetting sone! 👍👍👍 Liz
Good morning 🙏🏻 🌄
I need a few gardening mailboxes around my gardens. I love your sun hat! You look beautiful!😍 💚
Good tips, Liz! I would add – 1. Take your phone with you in the garden in case you fall or get dizzy
meanwhileuse it to take a few pic of your garden beauties. I use a pretty white (so I can spot it easily since I have a big garden) heavy-duty (so it doesn't tip over) plastic pot for my tools. 2. Buy clippers and shears that are designed for arthritic hands. It is amazing how much easier it is to work with good tools, worth every penny. Also saves you frustration when you realize you don't have as much strength as you used to. Buy cutters that give extra oomph and make the job easier. 3. I'm with all the ladies who commented that we get up early to beat the heat because we really can't deal with the summer heat. (Florida). 4. Garden safe shoes – Recently I noticed how unsteady old flip-flops can become – the water hose turned the interior soles into slip-slides. I lost my balance and immediately changed into good quality flip flops with a good footbed. Yesterday morning two fine-looking raccoons strolled through my garden – of course, I'd forgotten my phone. Happy Gardening, Liz!Very Nice Sharing Video Stay Connected my friend 😊
Helpful tips. I had alot of succulents in my garden when we moved in hereand o got rid of all of them😢. New friend here. 😊🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Liz!
I love succulents! I need more in my garden. Thank you Liz!
Great tips garden friend!
I am almost 68,so I need to remember these gardening tips!
Thanks Liz ❤🌸🌺
Thanks Liz for another great little video. I for one have incorporated the mailbox for years. And also, I want to suggest that you have a little container for your gloves. Because they always get muddy and wet after a while and it’s good to rotate them around, so you always have a fresh pair. Happy Fourth of July take care.
Great tips! And the Dollar Tree does carry garden kneeling pads
Hi Liz, this year my daughters boyfriend built me a little garden shed(which is supercute, that i painted colorful😊) – no more going to the basement up and down to carry lawnmower in and out 👏also all my tools, fertilizer, and garden supplies were on the stairs going into the basement now its all in the little garden shed! My life is so much easier as I, too, am getting too old for doing all that! Gardening is a hard but rewarding job! I focus on one area at a time, even though sometimes i overdo – I've learned to be mindful and listen to my body, letting me know when enough is enough lol! I dont always want to admit to being a senior with limitations – but, lo and behold, i am 😊🎉❤ see you next time
Brilliant what a great tip video. I always got wrapped up in the great content and forgot to tell you Miss Liz your rock the hat, very attractive.
So I've been wearing ball caps and hats in the garden for years you can never be too careful with the solar rays these days.
Being up in the high Mohave Desert on water haul I started to change over my gardens to agave, red tip yucca, desert willow trees and sages because of watering. It's made a huge difference in time and cost.
Happy 4th of July.
Hi Liz. I am on the cusp of being a senior, so let me watch. 😊
Great tips. ❤❤
I’m 70. I take lots of breaks.
Hi Liz, I am new to your channel and I just love your garden and love all the ideas and this video. I really needed some tips. I love all the colors in my garden and I never thought about succulents. I’m headed to the garden center for succulents. God bless you love your channel. I’m glad I found it.❤🙏🏼❤️💙🙏🏼💐🌹🌈
I like your happy smile~🙂 Thank you for sharing good tips to work in the garden~👍👍
Love the tips! If I got on my knees like you, I’d have to get a crane to get me up! Just kidding! But, it does get harder for us to get up and down as we get older.
I bought beautiful potted plants for my front walk. Only one plant has excelled. The others not so much. So, I’m thinking I need succulents, which should do great here in Central Florida! I hope you and your family had a good 4th of July! 🥰
Great tips Liz, thanks
Hope you had a great 4th, I’m just plugging back into the YouTube world🌸💚I love all of these tips…plant stands are fantastic!! Yes to knee pads, great idea with the cushion👏What a cute idea to store tools😍👏🌸💚🌸💚
Bonus tip!! 👏👏Succulents are awesome!!🌸💚🌸💚🌸💚
Thanks for the great tips Liz! I especially like the idea of gardening hand tools in a container for easy access ❤
Thank you for sharing these 5 practical tips! You've created a garden that truly feels like a fairy tale retreat. It's inspiring to see how gardening can remain joyful and accessible at every age. 💚✨
hi Liz, liked all your tips; my tip as far as safety goes is always have your cell phone nearby or let a other housemates or family members know that you intend to be in the garden so they might check on you;
