I want to build my first vivarium inside this lantern! My only concern is that the bottom might rust due to the drainage layer. I can cover it with something, but what should i use?? Plastic? Acrylic? Any suggestions on how? Thank you!

You’re definitely gonna need to build/place something in there to hold in the moisture. Plexiglass or glass if you want it to look good. Pond liner could work if you’re less concerned with the bottom aesthetics.

You can build a plexiglass/glass bottom. Just measure out the sides and the center on the inside, carve it out of the glass and glue it together with 100% silicone. Don’t forget to do the water test, where you pour water And leave it in for 2 days to see if it’s watertight.

One thing I’m concerned about though is the ventilation. It will be very humid inside.

I use any kind of removable saucer or bowl with low sides as the planted base.
To hide the planted base a coir liner is used or some dried spanish moss.

Everything is interchangeable and removable, no moisture ever touches the bottom.

The cutouts on the top of the lantern are perfect for ventilation.
