We don’t grow a lot of greens in our garden, but it’s not because we don’t like to eat them. There’s just so many wild greens growing all over the place, it feels silly to spend time planting them. Many of these tasty, nutritious greens are common garden weeds. Pcelain is a succulent you probably have growing somewhere near you. This giant batch of pcelain popped up in our carrot bed. Didn’t bother our carrots. And look how much pcane I was able to harvest in just a couple minutes. Again, I did no work to make this happen. Another great edible weed is lamb’s quarters, which is an amaranth a lot like spinach, only more nutrient-dense and in our opinion, tastier. In Mexico, kites is the blanket term for tender wild greens that are used in tons of dishes, and they often come from the so-called weeds that pop up in cultivated corn patches. I love the tradition of incorporating whatever green is already abundant. After all, why use tons of water or shade cloth to try and grow spinach in the summer or have it shipped in from across the country when pcane and amaranth are perfectly adapted to thrive in the warm weather? And I mean, just listen to that crunch. Growing some chopped pcplane together with some other vegetables from the garden, feta, and a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper is a perfectly refreshing summer salad. So get out there and eat some weeds.

Purslane made my throat itch
Awww man I usually smoke mine 😅
It's only a weed if you don't want it in your garden.
greens = leaves
weeds = leaves
profit
Beautiful!
This made me feel better.
(About eating the weeds 'cause I couldn't get my other greens to grow)
I don't trust Australian weeds to be this helpful 🤠
Have you ever dried wild greens to have year round?
I love your dress!
The texture of purslane is a bit much for me.
I wish I had perslane again but I pray it’ll come back this winter season. Yes foraging in the yard is best b4 planting any other greens. 🥬 😊👍🏼🌻
I love greens fried in bacon greese until i found out they can cause severe kidney stones and ive had 18 kidney stones by 50 years old! So im back to less green good stuff like meat all the time lol just be careful and do research. AI can identify like every plant just about just take a photo open Gemini ans hit the picture icon go to gallery and select it and ask what plant is this.
And here we see why the claim that "insert people didn't do agriculture, or only in small degrees" is bullshit. Most places havw pleanty of wild or semi wild edible plantlife, allowing people to focus on only growing staple crops.
Crunch is always good. 🎉
hara saag and bathua mix..we don't call it weed becz we grow them separately in India as crops for this consumption purpose only.
My mom "cooks" purslane with a can of sardines in tomato sauce and lemon.
Fascinating
❤️
I’ve bought purslane seeds, dug it up from the crack in the curb from a parking lot but cannot get it to survive😒 It & borage can’t survive my yard😢
I love this!
So far, I have one lambsquarter in my lawn. I'm waiting for it to seed so I can spread it around. And no purslane at all! I still need to find a patch and bring in some seeds.
But I do have wild violets and broadleaf plantain everywhere, and they work pretty good. Hopefully my nettle patch expands too.
The more you know!
