I've got this all over the yard… Along with spurge. I just keeping the spurge which is easy enough, but the taproot of these guys are like 2x or more longer than thicker than spurge. What is this stuff and how do you get rid of it?

  1. Bend over and pull it, grab it near the main root.

Purslane. You need to grab it in the very centre and pull the entire thing out. If you break off a piece of stem, it will grow a new plant.

hook 2 fingers under the center close your hand and pull

Curl or wrap it around your wrist and lean back

  5. Pick the leaves off. Packed with nutrients. Sauté lightly with some onion and sprinkle inside the cheese quesadilla I make! Or just pull it up.

You find a Mexican grandma to cook it for you.

To actually answer your question and not just completely ignore you and tell you to eat it…

I’ve never had any luck killing this stuff with glyphosate, so this is one of those instances where I actually wouldn’t recommend it. Supposedly, 2,4-D kills it, but I haven’t had much luck personally with that either. Best bet, find an excuse to get away from whatever you’re doing, and go pull all the little ones as best you can before the root gets too deep. If they’re too numerous or established, give a post-emergent herbicide like 2,4-D a shot but be prepared for that to take multiple applications to finish it off.

    Dedication, tenacity and spite.

My uncle spent 3 straight years combing the garden every day before he completely eliminated them.

I actually have an area of mulch its growing around rocks and just let it be. Doesn’t look bad and i prefer it over single strands of bermuda grass popping up.

Put some knee pads on, some gloves, and a small hand digging tool and dig them out.

Bacon, tomatoes, onions and a stock pot will help you get rid of those. My grandma has been feeding me these all my life.

If you aren’t able to cook it, I still find that my propane torch takes care of it nicely! Just turn the flame on it and hold it till its screaming stops!

You can eat that weed (purslane), just be sure you don’t mix any spurge with it by accident.

Purselane is edible. There is another weed that looks similar. Smaller leaves and it gives off milk when stems are broken…DON’T eat that one.

  15. Kindly-Base-2106

Are the people saying to eat it being serious?

  16. Latter-Technician-68

Look whenever I see these posts I just say… Roundup. It will fuck up all your weeds for a long time. Now some states or places might not agree but people want to know how to rid any weeds??? It’s round up. You’re welcome. (Cover up and wear a mask so you don’t get cancer)

Sautee it in butter with some onions.

    Delicious.

  18. The big issue is that it has tiny little seeds in its pods. The pod open very easy, so it if you pull it and the seeds pop out, they are going to be back next and will continue coming back for decades. Yes, DECADES!

  19. General_Snark

Eat it. I’m not being snarky it’s literally edible

  20. spudwellington

Weed burner. Takes a couple passes before the root system has used up all of its energy and dies but it works and won’t poison any other plants. Added benefit, its fun as hell.

  21. Potomacker

You can sauté it with olive oil and browned onions

  22. Latter-Assignment845

You don’t simply get rid of these weeds. In fact if you use all of your back and hearts capacity they will get rid of you. At best you hold the line.

Purslane. My arch nemesis. It popped up in my yard about 5 years ago and i pull it. All the time. I think i am close to winning.

Cardboard covered in bark nuggets, smother it out. Cardboard is free from amazon/chewy/walmart. Bark nuggets are $3-4 a bag. It bio-degrades and it last for years.

You ask it kindly to stop growing. Idk, purslane grew 2 weeks after I sprayed an industrial grade herbicide. It does have edible flowers that taste like a tangy strawberry.

  26. NotRickJames2021

    Common Purslane (Portulaca oleracea).

  27. It’s a bastard just pull it out any leaf that falls off Im pretty sure it turns into another weed just check every couple of days

  28. Emily_Porn_6969

You can pull it & pull it it just keeps coming, because you never get all of the root . Roundup is the only answer .
