hey everyone today I’m going to do a video on my favorite things and just in time for Mother’s Day because that is coming up uh and I’m going to start with of course roses rose bushes because they are my favorite things um it is a little bit uh later in the year to order bare roots i think most places are kind of winding down their bare root orders but you can still order rose bushes a lot of potted ones and uh Heirloom Roses has graciously sent me two of their roses and I’m going to talk about them and the company of course I’d already had my Heirloom Rose order in earlier uh this year and I’ve also ordered from them last year so I can talk about um firsthand with some of my favorite bushes okay so the two that I ordered oh and they offered to send me two uh and of course I’ve already got 170 rose bushes but they were on my wish list and uh the first one is the Paris de St lauren and this one is a beautiful pink rose i’m looking at a picture here um it just had such a unique uh shape it kind of reminds me a little of a bearded bearded iris you know how the edges of the uh petals are super roughly and everything and it’s supposed to be container friendly supposed to be good for cutting um and uh I was real excited let me just check on fragrance it’s a lightly fragrant so um but it is a deep pink hybrid tea and it gets uh four feet tall 3 feet wide so it’s just an average size hybrid tea and I just really am looking forward to it i actually yanked out a viburnum um because it was too big for the space and and put my uh Paris ad St lauren rose bush there and then I ordered an a gorgeous apricot one called beautiful dreamer this one had been sold out and then it came back um and it’s also great for cutting and it’s container friendly and it is a peachy apricot color and so I have a a burm like all along the driveway it’s a 55 foot stretch 5 ft wide um and it has all my apricot and yellow roses there and so I thought beautiful dreamer would go great in this area and let’s see it is 3 to 4 feet um tall and 2 to 3 feet wide so it is definitely a little bit more compact shrub uh so that would be a really good one in a container if you are limited or if um if you’re giving it for Mother’s Day gift if your mom is limited on space just uh has a sunny balcony uh it would be a great great um rose for there now I am going to talk about why I love heirloom roses first the roses come really well packaged um they come potted uh they have bamboo stakes so if the box gets turned upside down uh that the canes aren’t going to get crushed i think I had seven or eight of them last year and I got them way before I could plant them so I just had to put um a drip line over the top of them and I probably had them in their original pots which I don’t recommend uh but I had them for six weeks maybe almost two months before I could get them in the ground uh because we were just moving into our home and uh I kind of passed this the early spring flush with them but boy come fall I mean they bloomed over the summer but probably not the full-size blooms and they were just kind of getting their roots established but in the fall they really took off um I was getting the full size of Fragrant Blooms i had a Bliss Perfuma and um Belinda’s Blush i mean oh my goodness so gorgeous and what was the other one that I got was it all dressed up peek at my little cheat sheet on where I bought my roses from yes I have all of my roses in a spreadsheet and so I can sort by um where I bought them from oh April Love yeah that one’s an exclusive to them and it is so beautiful uh pink and very cupped very fragrant rose m it is a taller four to 5ft rose april love though is gorgeous oh I did get angel face this year i mean it it came last or just a couple weeks ago and it already has blooms in it um they’re small blooms again first year the roots are still getting um established uh but uh it it’s blooming it’s one of the first to bloom oh I have Bolero which is a beautiful white rose extremely fragrant uh if you uh like white roses and then Bonica bonuka was really interesting uh to me it’s a lot of smaller blooms but they’re in a spray and that one’s also really really fun it’s a larger uh shrub four to 5 ft tall 4t wide um it does well in a part shade but yeah the blooms are all in these clusters and it’s just covered in clusters um all season oh Celestial Night from Heirloom also deep plum purple it also that one is one that even in the heat of the summer it had huge full-size blooms and they were such a deep color they didn’t like fade or anything like that uh the Louise Clemens is also a one of their own it’s um an apricot color very beautiful it’s in my Burm area and um Oh I got Sexy Rexy that’s brand new that one hasn’t done anything yet south Africa another one it’s a Flora Bunda it’s It’s yellow kind of like a kind of uh apricot yellow and um you could just cut one stem and fill a vase cuz it uh it’s in um it’s not really clusters but it’s a spray beautiful sprays woolerson old hall mine’s about to bloom it’s it’s about to bloom right now i have it up on an obelisk i just put it on the obelisk this year um right after I pruned it what right after I woke it up this winter uh but it’s it’s looking really good did I have it in a pot i think I had it in a pot last year cuz I didn’t know where to put it but I finally got it in the ground and um anyways heirloom roses are all onegon they are all own root roses which if um that’s what you’re looking for uh that they only sell own root roses what that means is the rose and the roots are from the same plant because it’s very common to graft a rose where you take a root stock if if the rose doesn’t grow well in lots of different environments it’s common to take uh a roottock like a Dr huey or multifllora or a couple of the frun Fortunia um are very common roottocks and what you do is you take your your rose and you take the roottock and then when they’re really little you kind of bind them together and graft them together and then the rose will take off on the graft it can make your rose grow faster however if you’re in an environment that uh gets awful cold sometimes it can kill the top of your rose and then your rootstock will start sending up shoots and then next thing you know you have this big Dr huey rose bush so a lot of times people are looking for own root roses only uh because they don’t want to have to worry about um getting suckers or anything from the roottock and all of heirloom roses are own root and they are these heavy cotton uh work uh workhorse overalls but they are really light they have stretch they’re cool and comfy and um so the brown is really great working in the garden um but they have some really cute prints and right now I don’t know how long they’re going to be on sale this is you know not sponsored anything but right now their print overalls their current collection cuz they change and I have the brown ones and then these really cute blue and white ones now I’ve not worn the blue and white ones in the garden yet um I mean I obviously I could I could uh walk around garden and I wouldn’t necessarily um go on my knees in the garden even though these overalls if you really um do a lot of work um down on the ground you can get knee pads to stick inside your overalls they they actually have a space for the knee pads um I got the 31 in i probably should have gotten the 29 but they do roll up and have a little snap so uh you can still work uh in the garden without stepping on them really cute um I might order myself another pair and actually get uh the shorter inseam and then whatever your size is uh I recommend that you just size down one so uh they do run really roomy and with the adjustable straps and everything um I don’t think uh it should be an issue um with them you know falling down and everything but yeah loving loving loving my Duth overalls the other thing I’m loving are my sloggers um I keep buying different um color or different type sloggers so they have the slip-ons which have the heel and then they have some that are more like a clog and I bought the clog ones first but um because I wanted to just be able to step right out of them onto um my patio so I wouldn’t track dirt all over my uh front porch but um the regular ones stay on or you can step out of easily also and they stay on a little bit better if I’m like you know trying to step really hard on a shovel or or something like that i kind of like having the the heel covered so many different print and they come in full sizes so I would just go a size up um and uh yeah they’re really cute in the garden i mean I’m just looking at some of these other prints oh my gosh they have the cutest hummingbird print a blue one um I I’ve got black i got a solid black and then a black floral but now that I’m looking at some of the other prints and I got them on Amazon um I’m sure you can get them at the Slogger website but really good and sturdy and unlike Crocs or something else i mean you you don’t feel like anything’s going to poke through them i mean they’re really sturdy um soles hard soles what else oh from Witherspoon okay I love this um flower carrier I guess is what it’s called a bloom saver and so in the rose society uh every time we have the rose show and people come with their um roses and are they spend all this time you know putting them in vases and getting them all ready for the rose shows but they’re all carrying them in these bloom savers which I guess used to be sold years ago and then nobody was making them and no one was selling them well Weatherspoon uh roses and I think are they have South North Carolina um they’re in North Carolina uh so they came back out last year with the bloom saver and of course I bought two of them so I could have one in the front yard and one in the backyard um it’s just nice when you’re picking um roses like if or picking flowers if you have some smaller flowers you don’t want them getting crushed um so it’s got you know the three different openings and you just put a little bit of water in them and then drop your flowers in um they also have a gardener’s bundle uh which comes with a thorn stripper and so the gardener’s bundle is on sale or I’m not sure if it’s a sale price or just you know you save five bucks um buying them together that’s um another great gift idea uh I like bundling it with the the stripper and you can even bundle it with um some pruners which would be or uh not even Yeah are they pruners yeah the Felco pruning shears the 310 um they’re like 26 bucks on Amazon i love these because they’ve got the the sharper tip really good for getting down in there uh cutting close to the base um of the stem yeah really easy to maneuver um nice when you’re arranging flowers um I use them they’re the ones that I use when I’m trying to uh separate my dalas um anyways a really good shape and they’re nice and sharp and I really do love them of course you can get the regular Felos i think I have the F6 maybe F2 or F6 but it’s just the normal succur um but I do need to sharpen mine from last year i try to manually sharpen it i bought all the gunk cleaners and things like that um but I can’t get them as sharp as a new pair um and you could buy a replacement blade so that is one option uh I think I’m going to take it somebody said Asus Hardware might do sharpening so I might take it there and see if they will sharpen but I did buy because I needed a sharp pair of suckers i bought this two pack on Amazon it’s called Kind yeah they they work great they’re really sharp um and I like having two of them so so far so good i’ve used them for all my winter pruning uh so 60 bushes winter pruning and well I’ve used one i haven’t even uh you started with the second one yet and they’re yeah they’re super super sharp really good at cutting um a little bit thicker stems so suckers pruning shears i mean a gardener can never have too many of those so great gift idea and that is it those are some of my favorite things um great gift ideas for gardeners and I hope you enjoy this video again
