Today I’m going to give you a July garden tour. A lot of my blooms are really going wild at this time and some of my other blooms are not going as well. So, let’s take a little stroll through the garden and I will update you on where my plants are at. As you can see in this front section, two of my super tuna bubblegum vistas have not survived. They do have tiny little green buds on them, but I don’t think they’re going to do anything. If they popped out any flowers, I would be absolutely shocked. My dream for this section was to have a carpet of pink. It looks a little bit carpety over there. This is a little blotchy. These guys back here, they actually probably get too much water for this area. These are spicy devils that we got off the clearance rack at Lowe’s last summer. They’re actually going to get too large for this area. Going to be moving these at some point. I’m not sure when, but for right now, I really like the contrast of these leaves against the green, the purple, the pinks. This is just a dark color that looks great right here. And that kind of leads us to my other dark color, and that is these rock and roll sedums. I love sedums. They’re very low maintenance. I did have these in another part of the garden, and they kept getting eaten by ants. Right here, they’re actually doing great. It doesn’t seem like any ants have bothered them. They’re really doing great and they have these really pretty red blooms on top, but they’re dark leaf. I just really love the way these look. Honestly, I’m not really certain what this hydrangeanger is called. I know it is a let’s dance blue sky view. I don’t know. It’s kind of long and it makes it difficult to remember, but it blooms these pretty pink blooms. I did put a soil acidifier on this area to try to get these to come out blue and it doesn’t seem to work. These are hot pink and I think they’re going to be hot pink because of the pH in my soil. But that’s okay. I still think they’re beautiful and it’s just kind of tucked back right here and I think it’s going to be great as time goes on. I also have back here a pinnacle limelight hydrangeanger. Now, that’s easy for me to remember. And I got it on the clearance rack, and it was kind of shaped like a tree when I got it. So, I’m going with it. And I’ve kept it in this pot. Hydrangeas have done very well for me in pots. Honestly, I didn’t even know if this survived the winter because it was on the porch. And what had happened was it just sat there all winter and it looked like it was on death’s doorstep. It didn’t look like it had a lot of buds on it starting out in the spring, but man, has it shown off. It is giving off these pretty creamy white blooms. They’re all over it. They’re covering it. So, I think this is doing really great. I’m just going to kind of keep my eye on it because I want it to grow big and strong and not get weighed down. And sometimes I notice that with the trees. I also have a blue star Jupiter. I think it’s getting too much water as well. The issue with this area is our gutters run down right there and right there. And this is like a French drain and it all kind of pulls down here. So, I told my husband what we need to do is we need to just fill this area in with rocks. It works out perfect cuz we need to move these anyways. What am I going to replace these annuals with? I don’t know if anyone in the comments below wants to give me any ideas. I don’t want this to be very tall. I guess I should just tell you guys how I feel about it, right? But when I’m pulling up here, I want to see the peaks of the hydrangeas. I see the hydrangeas fully over there, but once that flower bed is larger, I know things are going to be a little different. While I love these annuals like this, I need to find something that is perennial that I can put along the bottom that won’t be very tall, but I also like something that flowers. I don’t know. What do you guys think I should do there? Oh, the thing about annuals is they do bloom all year. Now I’m convincing myself I need to go back to annuals. I don’t know, guys. I might have a problem. Maybe you guys have some great ideas and I won’t even be thinking about this twice. These are two blue grasses I got two summers ago on the clearance rack. They were in the backyard, but they had too much shade going on and they weren’t really thriving. So, I moved them up here. And I love them because they give off a very pretty bluish purple hue. There’s like purple at the tips and then it’s like a bluish stem. I absolutely love it. Gets me so excited. I I’m sorry, guys. I am just so happy that I found you guys on here because when people come to my house, all I want to do is talk about plants. And I’m glad I found people who love and care about plants as much as I do. I really appreciate it. These are purple echanasia or cone flowers. There’s just something about them that I love. And I remember last year I was like, I’m going to make a place for them. And they look great here. I love them. I know they’re going to grow big. I’m just going to have to keep them maintained. A lot of these taller wild flowers I know I will thin out and move to the front of the property as time progresses just because I don’t want them to overtake these areas. Here are the zenyas. They’re really coming along. I think they’re going to be blooming. I would say in the next week, week and a half, I’m going to have a lot more blooms. I do actually have one bloom. It’s barely getting started. Oh my gosh, there’s only like two little flowers on there. I’m telling you guys, I’m obsessed. This is all I think about. All I want to do is talk and think about flowers. It’s kind of bad. This one, it just looks a little skimpy. I don’t know. I think the ants may have gotten to it. I need some ant control. I tell you that. I am loving how this is looking. I wish this would take off a little more. I don’t know what I’m doing that it’s not. I did add these two potato vines that I found on the clearance rack at Lowe’s. And then I also got these at the local garden center on sale. They were half off. So, I put this in here and I trimmed it off. And I’m just going to let it grow for the rest of the summer and just see kind of what it does the remainder of the year. I I really like that. That’s probably my favorite one. Actually, let me just show you the other one while we’re talking about the planter pots. I really do like that. But I made a mistake by not putting something a little fuller at the base. Like this is filling out and it’s giving me the look I want. Hopefully this will kind of fill out. I trimmed this eucalyptus down. I really like that cuz it smells good. But I may end up just like putting that in there because like the eucalyptus isn’t giving me the I’m wanting. It’s just too too dainty. I got these on the clearance rack. The same clearance rack. I got these at the local garden center. I think these are mini super vistas. Ruben winners. I took those out of here and that planter and put them in here and replaced them with the geraniums. These are the Superbena verbinas. I’ll be honest, I’m a little disappointed in these this year, but I think they have gotten taken by bugs. I went ahead and got some bug spray. I sprayed that on there. Hopefully, that will salvage what is left cuz there’s still a lot of green on here. And I mean, there’s a pretty bloom right there, so I’m not giving up fully on it. I got this off the clearance rack earlier this summer. It’s blooming and doing just perfectly fine. that one. Honestly, I think these look pretty good. This is a Anna’s magic ball. I absolutely love this plant so much. I’m on the hunt for other ones. I cannot find them at my local garden center. I cannot find them at Lowe’s. I cannot find them at Menard’s. I can find them nowhere. It makes me very sad, but I might have to order one online. This is a type of elephant ear plant. I am not certain what type. My sister has one of these plants, and I absolutely fell in love with it. So, this section I’m a little sad about. I came out in the middle of last week and took a beautiful video of this area. I just think it looks so pretty up against that purple. I have loved this plant, but something had happened. Some of these stems just bit the dust like overnight. I don’t know if it’s water burn. I don’t know if it’s too much water. I don’t know if it’s not enough water. I don’t know how these could not have gotten enough water because it has rained tremendously here in Indiana. So, I don’t know. I’m just kind of hoping that they’re going to be okay and they’re going to, you know, come back next year. I mean, they still have some decent blooms and I’m holding on for dear life, obviously, because some of these look absolutely pitiful. But I did see some little blooms at the top of some of these. So, I don’t want to give up full hope. Maybe they can bounce back, but even if they don’t, as long as they come back next year and I get as much time out of them as I did, I will be happy. These super tuna bordeos have not done too bad. I still would prefer them to be much larger, but I think it comes down to my fertilization schedule. I don’t want to fertilize every week, guys. I work a full-time job. I have three kids. I do not have time to fertilize these plants every week. If I’m going to be realistic, I need to get a little bit more into perennials and a little bit more into self- sustaining plants that will come back year after year with little to no maintenance. I don’t have words to describe how much I love this section of the garden. When I first got into gardening, hydrangeas were one of the first things I fell in love with. I remember I found those limelight hydrangeas on the clearance rack at Lowe’s and I knew I hit the jackpot. Yet at the same time, I knew limelight hydrangeas were not practical for like landscaping close to a house like this because they get so large. So then I went on a journey and that’s when I found boowo hydrangeas. And I am in love with bobo hydrangeas. Okay, I can’t get enough of Bobo hydrangeas everywhere around my property. Cover my house in them. I love boowo hydrangeas. They’re great little pollinators. The bees love them. They bloom a little bit later, mid July. And I don’t know how long they’re going to go. I am going to put a little bit of fertilizer on these. Someone said you just do it in the beginning of summer. Some people do it in the beginning in the middle of summer. I think I might do another one, but I don’t know. Maybe I won’t. Maybe once again, I’m was just telling you over here how I’m going to be a little bit low more low maintenance and then now I’m like I’m going to fertilize these again. So maybe I’m not being realistic. This is a tiger lily that my grandma gave me. I don’t know what variety it is. It came out of her garden. I think it’s so beautiful. It’s actually in a pot right now because I don’t want to commit to putting it anywhere as of yet. This is a flock I found on the clearance rack at Lowe’s. It’s actually two flockes I put into one container. The tops look dead, but the bottom had a lot of green growth, so I cut all the tops off. And I’m thinking I might be able to get another flush out of this. These are Superbina Verbina pink cashmere. Now, this is the same variety as these ones. I have video of what last year’s looked like. They were gorgeous. They were beautiful. I had them over there. One thing that made me like these plants for in the ground is they’re a little bit more durable. Like these leaves are very thick and very I don’t know any other word besides durable. They’re very durable and their stems, they’re strong. This is probably one annual I will plant in the ground. And I feel like I get way more bang for my buck. I only fertilize these one time this year and this is how large these have gotten. These this one’s looking very good right now. Wow. This is a dilly that my grandma gave me. I just threw it in a pot for now. That’s another Anna’s magic ball. I planted that last year. I want to get another one to go right over there. So, that’s what I’m on the hunt for. Here is my daisy sha patch with some little tennis balls on the side. It’s giving off a few little blooms here. They’re holding on. I really cut these down again because they’re just flopping over all of which ways. Try to keep the ones that were decent and this is all that’s left, which I do see a bud right there. So, there might be some more down there. I hope that they’ll grow up lower and not shoot to the top. One of my clients gave me this. Been really great. Easy to maintain. This plant, it’s looking a little bit spent. I didn’t make it to this in my cleanup that I did the last few days. I just need to come in here and deadhead it. But other than that, I love these colors together. These yellow just really shine bright and the purple. The super tunia bordeau look really good. Now, I don’t think I’ve given up on the superunia bordeau in pots. I’ve given up on them in the grounds, but definitely not the pots. What do you think? Do you like the yellow and the purple together? This is a clatus. It’s given me about a bloom every 2 weeks. I did get this on the clearance rack this year. Some people said that it takes a couple years to really get established. So, I’m just going to kind of let it do its thing. See if it even comes back in this pot. Because this is a plastic pot, but it is up close to the house. I got this purple grass from the clearance rack. It’s been slow growing, but it almost like was pretty much dead. I saw no green in it at first. Once again, the sad superunia bordeau. Like there’s the superunia border in the pot. I think they look amazing. They look astounding. I don’t have to dead head them. I don’t have to worry about any of that. They look great in the ground for me. They don’t like it. Maybe there’s some hoops I got to jump through, but I don’t think I’m willing to jump through them. Here is my final planter. We have the king tut grass on top and then we have the superbina verbinas on the bottom. I really like the way this turned out. I’m so glad I trimmed up the sides of these a couple weeks ago and I think it just really made all the difference. One thing I will say, I think this king tut grass would prefer to be in full sun. It just is pretty floppy. I think it needs to be dug deeper in there. I haven’t found the perfect thing for here. I want a tall plant. Maybe I just need to go to an arbivite. But I think this looks really pretty and trimming it up really helped it kind of like put up more growth up here. These are more clearance plants. I want to get a planter pot for that and I have a place to put that in the backyard that I’m working on. Thank you so much for watching today. 1. Everything looks stunning! It's impossible to find short perennials that bloom as long as annuals. I hope you can find something awesome! I have the same problem, petunias are not the same as my childhood petunias. I was trying to figure out bulbs, perennials and more bulbs-but that was too advanced, lol!
I never water my Blue Star Juniper and it loves it's life in full sun and surrounded by grassπŸ˜‰
I was wondering if I should fertilize my hydrangeas also. After some research, I decided to get a soil sample first. I have never did one. It should give me specific fertilizer recommendations. Your Bobo are too cute!!!! And so do the superbena!!! Those are definitely going on my list next yearπŸ€“
Love the yellow and purple together, a winning combo for sure!!!!!
    Thanks for sharing!!!! Blessings abound!
