I get these in Michigan sometimes I just pull them out easy

It spreads so fast I cannot keep up

Spurge. Good luck

The good news is that it’s fairly easy to pull.

Here in Louisiana It spreads like crazy. I’m sick of fighting it.

A grass like Zoysia that carpets the area helps. I had a flair up of that weed when my Zoysia was patchy due to a late fall installation. Year 2 the Zoysia crowded it out. I picked them as well to stunt them.

It’s spurge. Mostly is controlled by a pre-emergent, but you can use a 3 way herbicide like Trimec for post control.

I personally find it beautiful, it’s like a carpet that fills in between perennials… Also it is a harbinger of summer! Getting rid of it? Yeah good luck… On the positive side, a family friend asked me where I bought it and how I managed to plant so much haha!

I have the time to get to these weeds before they take hold. It takes meticulous time picking them out when they’re seedlings the first few years, until they start to grow less and less. They grow less, because I’m getting rid of them before they disperse their seeds.
Over time, they become more manageable and it requires less time pulling them out when tiny, because there are less of them. I take them out when they’re tiny, but you can miss a few and see them as they get a bit bigger. But, like I said, it’s harder work in the beginning and then they dwindle down as you stay on it every season.

Scourge. I mean, spurge.

Wear gloves and wash your hands when handling these—avoid letting their milky sap contact your skin!

Destroy forever! That’s a good one!
The little tiny seeds from this plant can stay dormant for 5 years, just waiting for chance to grow.
See ya in 2030.

The good news is that it’s super easy to pull. The bad news is that you’re gonna be doing that.

NH, you can’t get rid of it. Ever. Under any circumstance. The harder you try the more you spread it. Just give up and go home.

*Euphorbia maculata*.
You won’t get rid of it unless you plant other plants that outcompete it, as it is a specialist in colonizing and recolonizing disturbed areas.
It’s pretty easy to weed, but be aware that like all *Euphorbia*, the white sap is a mild skin irritant and carcinogen.
I kind of like ‘em, but I like weird succulents.

A scuffle hoe works great for spurge!

In my yard, there’s always an ant nest below.

Pull it and make sure you get that center node where the tap root is. Just yanking off the top trims it and it comes back ready for bear, before you can blink. Ensure you remove the plant BEFORE it seeds. You’ll still have years of pulling but not the huge numbers of plants to deal with.
By the way, I use roundup on some weeds but not these. Their seeds will continue to develop and mature after spraying (which can happen with other weeds that are also starting to seed). So handweeding is better for my garden.

Ajuga will crowd them out, can confirm.

How do we tell him?
tldr: it’s spurge, highly herbicide resistant. Your best method for control is THESE TWO HANDS and early *elimination*, I mean extraction.

Spotted Spurge could be native to your area. Think of it as green mulch and let it be.

They’re kind of oddly satisfying to pull

Bought myself a propane flame thrower specifically for these MFers.

Alternative take- spurge is native to many places in the US. Don’t worry about it. Let it live and spread as an awesome, tough groundcover.
Or battle it for the rest of your life…I guess ? Not sure why that would appeal to anyone
