what’s up YouTube welcome back to the channel in today’s video we putting together this VGO elevated raised garden bed let’s get to it so the first thing I’m going to do is get this out the box uh and then I’ll bring you guys back [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right I got everything laid out um I put this cardboard down here so that I can build the raised bed on top of the cardboard and then uh so I don’t get it all scratched up on this concrete right here all right it’s got pretty good instructions it seems pretty simple um I just got to get the uh the nuts and bolts i think it’s easier if I separate them before we get started so I have them all in one place well that was pretty simple because they already have them separated in these little uh bags right here so hey that’s pretty convenient [Music] april showers in the month of May the ground’s still wet and the sky still gray but you’re still shining no cadences or chords to play [Music] no melodies or words to say but you’re still singing and it keeps me breathing when I fall [Applause] apart to a million pieces when I don’t know where to start you put me back together so on this part I wanted to bring y’all in here cuz it’s something that I learned on that one right there so it has these little lips that this part right here sits on actually this has to be around this way because that hole needs to be on the bottom but that just sits on there like that so it’s good to turn your uh your legs on the side like this so that you can just sit it in there and get these started on the on the ends now what I was doing I’m going show you here in a second once I get this in there what I was doing I was taking this and turning it like this don’t do that on this side it’s got this little beveled end like that and you don’t have to have it straight you can have it over here to the side and it still turns and you can just twist it like that versus uh putting it in taking out putting in taking out and then when you get it tight then you can come back with this side to to wrench it down so um yeah that’s that’s pretty cool how how they got it so that you can just go off to the side on like that and then just tighten it with this part and I’m not tightening everything down real tight right now i’m just kind of doing it loose but just wanted to bring y’all in on that part just in case y’all decided to get one and you was doing this right here with it and you were like “Man that thing taking forever.” You put me back together again when the waters rise and the levy breaks through your tearfilled eyes and your hands that [Music] shake darling I’ll be steady when you’re at the end of your tired rope when you’re feeling trapped and just need to go darling I’ll be ready when you fall aart to a million pieces when you don’t know where to start I’ll put you back together [Music] i’ll put you back together again i’ll put you back together i’ll put you back together again when I fall [Music] apart into a million [Music] pieces when I don’t know where to start when I forget where my piece is [Music] when you fall [Applause] apart into a million pieces and you don’t know where to start i’ll put you back together i’ll put you back together again you’re putting me back together you’re putting me back together all right good job look at that don’t you look pretty not too too hard to put together I will say oh man i’m just knocking everything hold on let me let me get straight here all right there we go so um not too too hard to put together i will say it would be much easier with two people okay also if you got fingernails I mean I don’t have really no fingernails but if you got fingernails um these are really hard to put in because it’s hard to to to grip them um what else make sure So these side panels right here will go on the opposite way with this hole at the top cuz I messed up and did that um it needs to be the hole on the bottom and uh trying to see so these uh wheels which these wheels are awesome i mean goodness they’re awesome and look that thing ain’t moving so I got the lock on it over here they recommend that you put the It’s only three of them that have the locking wheels and three non-locking wheels so they recommend you do locking wheel and then locking wheel on the other side in the middle then locking wheel back on this side um and then you do the same thing with the non-locking wheels i guess that gives it a little bit of uh symmetry so you can um uh roll it around real good and whatnot so um yeah I’mma I’mma go ahead and and tighten up everything cuz I didn’t tighten up everything on the first go round so I’m going to go through and tighten and I recommend that because that made it so much easier for when something didn’t line up right I could I could move this around a little bit and uh even with it not being tight I mean it’s pretty sturdy um but I’mma tighten everything up and then I’m going to bring y’all back for when I go to fill it all right I got everything tightened up so now um that whole box that this came in is biodegradable so I’m just going to throw this down in the bottom not for I mean it’s got a great um uh metal piece down here in the bottom but I’m just going to put it down there just to let it uh be some more organic matter down there i’m gonna throw these these other corrugated pieces down in there just to also help it fill up a little bit um I think that’s all I’m going to use and then at the very bottom I already went and got some compost oops i might need to put the lock on the wheels so I’m going to dump some compost down in here let me see we back in there let me Let me lock that let me lock that yeah buddy i like that all right so I got some compost down in there i think I’m going to get me another bucket of compost yeah let me get another bucket of compost maybe two buckets yeah I got another bucket over there i’m give me two two more buckets of compost and then I’ll be back all right and this compost um this is compost that I made here at the homestead and it’s really good i mean I mean it looks good anyway so that’s going to be a good layer down here in the bottom and what and it’s got some worms in it so that’s always good to have a few worms down in it and then I’m going to take I got some uh some old banana peels and different uh well mostly just banana peels but I’m going to spread those out down in the bottom in here and then I got some coffee grounds these are coffee grounds I’ve been saving up after my coffee in the morning all right and then I’m going to put another layer of compost on top of that oh yeah I got some more worms get all that covered up real nice like get that rock out of here like I said if I can grow anything here on this homestead it’s rocks all right so now I’m going to fill up the whole rest of this with uh garden soil i’mma put a couple buckets in here i’mma mix it with this compost a little bit and then the top is just going to be garden soil and uh and then we’ll get to planting [Music] All right we got her nice and full now let’s go in the greenhouse and see what we going to plant all right let’s see we’re going to put Oh yeah i’mma put some culinary sage in there probably do three plants of culinary sage and right there um lettuce leaf basil i think I got four of those two three and four so yeah I’mma do four of these and three of the basil i mean three of the uh sage at least that’ll be it for for right now i think that’ll be good in there all right man i like this i like this a lot um can y’all see me all right y’all hey I like this i like this a lot i like it a lot all right so we going to put we going to we going to put the basil’s about right there one on the edge and one on this edge and then I’m going to put this culinary sage right here in the middle i don’t know if it’s going to be too tight or not but I’m going to try it i’mma put that one right in the middle of there and that one right there looks good you’re going to go right in the middle of there look at that that’s what I’m talking about we got some nice roots down there and then I got my hole i’m going throw a little bit of fertilizer down in there that’s that complete organic from Hos i’ll link it below that’s like Mike’s hot uh Mike’s uh what is it called uh Mike’s hot sauce we put that on everything yeah that’s what uh that’s what I do with Complete Organic we put that on everything you can be generous with this complete organic you ain’t got to worry about it burning your plants nothing like that i still mix it in real good in the soil i’m going put this uh label over there oh yeah it was time for you to come out of there let me see get you down in there bet you spread your wings get this over here in the middle a little bit this uh culinary sage was sent to me by uh someone on Facebook i’ve been I’ve been swapping seeds with so many dag on people and I I’m so sorry i I forget uh who gave them to me sometimes but I do appreciate the swap i think I gave her some kind of beans or something and she gave me some culinary sage so my plan is I’m going to grow this stuff out this year just so I have something in here probably put some uh flowers in here too or something like that and then after that every all this is coming up and this fall I’m putting strawberries in here i’m gonna put probably about 15 I say 15 to 20 strawberry plants in here this fall let the roots establish all winter and come next year cut to mighty no i’m telling you what we going to have some dead gum strawberries some strawberries yes indeedy all right i don’t know y’all what y’all think what y’all think thumbnail that’s the thumbnail right there this boy is simple he’s simple y’all all right let me get y’all up in here to get y’all a better look see what we working with right there so we got basil sage basil sage basil sage basil and like I said I probably put some uh flowers or something in here just something to hold it over till fall and then come fall I’ll rip everything out of here oh let me see if my bench will work over here i don’t know let me see oh man this is perfect yes indeed let me talk to y’all real quick hold on let me uh let me slide this on around a little bit yes indeedy y’all this is awesome i love the height of it you can actually sit down and work it and it’s not too tall if you don’t get the uh what you call them if you don’t get the wheels it’s going to be lower anyway so it’s good for sitting if you wanted to be even taller i saw um Danny over at Deep South Homestead he has two channels i don’t remember if it was on Deep South Homestead or if it was on uh his one uh Peon Grove um but anyway he got one of these and he put he didn’t get the I don’t know if he got the wheels or not but he put it up on cinder blocks and um so it was up higher and man so like if you’re standing like it was up here so you ain’t have to bend over at all and here you don’t have to bend over you know so this is a good height if it didn’t have the wheels on it it’d be down a little bit lower you know which isn’t still isn’t bad it isn’t like you’re down on the ground you know like that so um I like that putting it together i recommend two people if you’re going to do it by yourself just take your time uh the instructions are really really good just you got to pay attention to them i didn’t pay attention to parts of it and so I got had some things backwards and whatnot and but it was easy to fix it was nothing nothing crazy um don’t forget the fingernails if you got fingernails or if you or if you just have a hard time with your fingers um gripping you know and uh whatnot uh some of the screws are real small so you like I had I had trouble with some of them so um that could be an issue so you might you know just have somebody help you uh with the screws and whatnot but also I would recommend that if you do it in the sun to wear some gloves cuz these panels get hot and so and so uh picking up a few of them I was like “Oo that’s that’s pretty warm.” But not not too bad i like it i like it what do y’all think y’all let Oh and I really like this is what I really like i really like the the bottom part where I can store stuff down there now um I don’t know what I’m gonna store down there i got a watering can that I just got sitting over on the side that I might put down there and um I don’t know i have to look around and see what I got i could even keep some uh some of my trays my seed starting trays and stuff down there for when I um I’m seed your time it it it was it took me a little longer than what I feel it should have taken me but that was my fault i didn’t follow the directions all the way and uh the directions said what to do i just didn’t do it and um it holds quite a bit of soil um I gotta look up to see what the cubic uh feet is of this but this one is 2×6 they sell a 2×4 and they sell a 2×8 the 2×6 and the 2×8 both have this bottom grate on it i don’t think that the 2×4 has that bottom grate on it so um that’s part of the reason why I wanted at least the 2×6 um and I didn’t want the 2×8 cuz I didn’t want to fill I didn’t want to fill it all up you know I the soil I got a bunch left on my uh trailer over there but um I’m using it for different stuff around the homestead so um yeah I just I didn’t want to use all of it i mean I wouldn’t have used all of it for two more square feet but um No I like it it’s sturdy it’s uh it’s durable it comes with a 2-year warranty uh the warranty covers um if the like the paint like the scratch not not scratches but um if like cracks it said um what else uh rust it covers against rust um any um deterioration it’s a two-year uh warranty it doesn’t obviously cause uh cover like incidentals so if you had a shovel and you raked it up against the side of here you know and it scratched up the side it’s not going to cover that but if paint just starts flaking off and stuff like that you know um that that will be covered so um yeah it’s really And like I said so the wheels you don’t have to get the wheels the wheels are extra they cost more okay to get the wheels but these wheels are surprisingly great like they’re not cheap these aren’t cheap wheels so um so yeah I if you want to pony up a little bit more to get the wheels I recommend it um they hold well when they’re locked and they roll they roll well um on flat surfaces obviously I if you’re going to put it out in the garden or out on uneven like on the grass or something I wouldn’t get the wheels okay i would just sit them up on some cinder blocks or something and uh and call it a day but if you’re going to put it on a patio like this right here I recommend getting the wheels okay one it raises it up just a little bit enough for it to be really comfortable uh but not too high where you can’t sit down and and work it still oh let me talk about sitting down okay so I’m going to bring this around front so a subscriber Robin you know who you are um she’s a godscent and um she sent me this stool that also doubles as a uh like a kneeler man I’ve been pulling weeds i’m telling you I’ve been all through the garden this this will go down these will come in like this right here but um man I’ve been pulling weeds with these things if y’all don’t know I got some bad knees um I used to do a whole lot of running when I was in the military i used to run uh uh like half marathons and um 10ks and 5ks all the time and um I just ran my knees out i ran them out and uh I would I would run probably about a 100 miles a month at least that would be the minimum and um just through training and whatnot and and uh I got what they call runner’s knee and I had torn meniscuses and all that kind of stuff and so here okay I’mma tell you that hey this whole setup this whole setup you over 40 man you tired of bending down and and gardening hey let me tell you this right here is a nice raised bed this is nice like this is really really nice man this is nice so uh so yeah she she sent me that and she sent me Let me show you i’mma do a video on it but uh she sent me this composter too yep so I got to I got to get that to use and show you guys how that’s done show youall how I put it together and everything and then she also sent me this right here which is awesome i’mma link I’mma link all this stuff below but um this is like a knife sharpener it has different uh parts like it sharpens different stuff it’ll sharpen the axe um it’ll sharpen your pruners right here on the back man I’ve already got a lot of use out of this right here this thing right here is awesome i love this little pouch on the side of that um of that needler um they call it um yeah man i got all my stuff and I got stuff stuff oh my goodness anyway um I’mma link all that stuff below robin you’re an amazing human being and uh I I hope that I hope that you know I can continue to make videos that that touch people that reach people um y’all know why I do this so I do this um this is this is for my mental health right here um that’s the reason why I got into homesteading and I noticed it was they made a huge change and you know I go to therapy and whatnot and I do take medication as well but um but man nothing does it like when I step outside of the house i tell you I’ll be sitting inside the house i don’t care about the medication i don’t care about the therapy like it it just don’t work when I’m inside the house once I step outside the house and I get out here in the nature and I get my hands into the soil man oh man that’s got some I tell you it’s got some healing properties to it and I’m so thankful that I get to wake up and do this every single day i’m so thankful that we got people out there like Robin that’s that’s hearing my story and and uh and hopefully if it’s resonating with her that that means that there’s a couple service members or former service members active duty reser um first responders um that are out there and they and they got demons you know and Uh if if if one of them sees this video and says “Man let me uh let me plant something let me go dig a hole and put something in the ground put a seed in the ground and see if see if I can make it grow.” And uh and that seed turns into them changing their life through gardening or homesteading or just being in nature that’s
