spring out here in the countryside is breathtaking Color returns in the form of flowers Life blossoms The air is sweet Everything is once again green And even the early mornings and evenings are no longer cold The rivers and falls roar with all of the snow melts And they’re the most swollen they’ll be out of the entire year I spend most days foraging throughout the forest and wandering the newly thawed earth observing And towards the end I start daydreaming about summer Dreamy hazy golden lush endless days warm soil buzzing meadows vibrant wild flowers fields so thick you can hardly pass through them [Music] I think about the hours spent in the rivers cooling off I think of summer and I smile Now the solstice just passed and the season is officially here I’m so grateful that the garden is once again thriving and we can eat and drink from it daily having some of the most nourishing and hydrating food that I have ever consumed The night air is filled with the sound of crickets and tall grass blowing in the wind And the summer flowers have now just begun to open But just like the waves of blooms true summer up here is ephemeral So you have to soak up each moment and cherish every day before the leaves will again become orange and red But for now this is just the beginning In midJune the breeze starts to carry the fragrance of something so floral and enticing that it’ll stop you right in your tracks And if you stop and look around you’ll probably find hundreds of little white flowers multifllora wild brambler rose And down by the stream there’s always an abundance right as summer enters Last year I was able to create a natural perfume from the petals but this year I wanted to do something a little bit different [Music] I have already been putting this all over my body It smells really nice I also put in some geranium and pomerosa essential oil to just everything works really synergistically together I feel like with those three flowers rose pomeosa and geranium Really nice creamy texture and consistency Look at how moisturizing that is And it’s not greasy It really isn’t It has been soaking right in I feel like I’ve got velvet in my hands So I went into my materia medicica where I can reference all sorts of herbs and see what they’re good for inside and out Multifllora rose amazing inside and outside vitamins polyphenols minerals bioflavonoids It helps with wounds cools down sunburn It’s anti-inflammatory It’s a nerve It’s going to support your nervous system It’s also got an astringent property to it It’s also beneficial for your gut And it’s an amazing heart opener So it’s going to help with grief anxiety trauma sadness anxiety heartbreak helps with headaches mellowing out your mood promoting things like cardiovascular function dealing with anger frustration Sometimes things work out really well when you make them and sometimes they don’t And this one was very nice Tonight’s goal is to give some attention to the property the lawn Even though some of it is bare and thin in some spots with new growth or none at all the parts that are developed are really thick and tall So I want to mow everything Some point this week get some more grass seed in there It’s just ever since we bought the property a ton of work has been going on and things get torn up then replanted and moved around and the cycle continues But I think we’re getting into a pretty good spot now where we won’t have to do much more planting and evening out Either way I’m really excited I’m going to fire up the CubCadet It’s been almost a year since I’ve done this [Music] The CubCadets That stuff stopped I have a feeling I know what it is [Music] Zero fuel Well at least it’s not something bad Fill her up and keep going [Music] [Music] That does it Weed whacked and mowed the lawn It smells really good Like fresh cut grass everywhere And I get the grass seed in in a couple of days But I’m beat I’m sweaty It’s very buggy outside right now So I’m going to call it But wow Having the lawn mode even if it’s spotty right now with all of our new landscaping such a good feeling We worked really hard for this [Music] Back before the growing season kicked off for the year I brought a dream of mine to life transforming the backside of the garden which was just a slope but was also south facing into a fully functioning herb garden full of flowers medicinal herbs edible things And now it is finally harvestable So in addition to eating out of the garden I’m able to make more for my small business directly from the A-frame I’m also doing fresh batches of tea almost every single day And it’s funny because when you think about eating out of the garden a lot of people will have a salad come to mind And though that is one of my favorites I had something else in store that I’ve been meaning to do with the edible flowers for quite some time And now that everything is blossoming I could do it get the [Music] [Music] So in the middle there a bunch No No Seems a little ridiculous And the sourdough you can really see This is the stream on our property and it’s now just a trickle After months of rain and all the snow melt back in the spring it’s finally low again I just wanted to take a second to catch up and maybe explain some things going forward of what to expect I know it’s been a while since we’ve worked on the house We do intend to pick back up in the next week or two with the basement Hopefully get it done within a month or so And you know the outside of the house still has the rot that we need to tackle and we’re putting in all sorts of new windows And then the rooms that would be left is basically the whole first floor when you walk in There’s living rooms and dining rooms bathroom kitchen all need some attention But I also think I’m going to be taking more or less a break for a little bit on YouTube I’ve been documenting my life for almost five years straight now And I have a creative endeavor that I’ve been working on in the background If you’ve been here for a while I’m sure you know what it is But my goal is to have it absolutely completed and ready to reveal by my birthday which is August 30th And that means I need to actually put my creative energy into it and devote time to it Sometimes when you’re juggling too many things at once it ends up being that you you can’t do everything great You could do a couple things well but to really do something great you have to focus on that one thing I don’t think I’m going to go completely silent I think you could expect a video or two in July I mean I’ll be documenting the whole way of course as this entire forest and property and the fields and the mountains come more to life and have so much to offer throughout the summer season I also have my Patreon which if you aren’t familiar with that it’s a platform that I’m able to share bonus exclusive content I post things like recipes um DIY behind the scenes meditation mindset practices herbalism knowledge Uh that’s all funneled into that And it also is a great way to help support the channel too There’s different tiers Ooh that smells so good Yeah as always you guys are amazing I’m so grateful that you’re here and that you’re excited about this big journey with developing the A-frame into a homestead and life in the countryside and herbalism and being able to share     Oof you have a lot of Japanese knotweed lining your property. Super invasive and can devastate biodiversity. Careful with the strimmer. Any cut it makes to the plant can spawn a new plant, even with just a 2cm piece of root. It's like a hydra.

    Also, really nice that you are making something out of the multiflora rose– it is also super invasive/ on the invasive species list of MA, just something to keep in mind.

    Your plants look great! Do you deal with any bugs eating your plants in your garden? This year has been bad for me. My lemon balm and chard and sunflowers all eaten up. I’m using a natural spray I made and neem oil and don’t want to have to use bug nets!
