Visitors to the Rugby Chamber of Commerce’s Garden Tour on July 15 were treated to more than a stroll through pretty flower beds. They were welcomed into the heart of the community itself.

Among the featured stops was the home of Sandra Brossart, where a lineup of vibrant planters and cheerful blooms greeted guests with warmth and elegance. Lining her front patio were dramatic red geraniums, soft pink and white petunias, trailing calibrachoa and sweet potato vine — all bursting with mid-July charm. Set against a modern gray exterior and accented by angel statues and stone benches, Brossart’s entryway was more like a carefully composed painting than a porch.

The real showstopper? Her color-coordinated planters of cascading petunias in pinks, purples and reds, blooming so vigorously they seemed to spill right out of their urns with pride.

Not far from the flower-filled patio, Brossart also showcased a meticulously organized vegetable garden, fenced and trellised with care. Rows of cucumbers, tomatoes and beans stood tall and tidy, framed by the North Dakota prairie beyond. The garden wasn’t just productive . It was picturesque, a marriage of rural practicality and lush greenery.

Also featured on the tour was the home of Brenda Olson, whose backyard nook was like stepping into a secret garden designed for daydreamers. Tucked beneath the shade of towering evergreens, her whimsical setup included a gravel-lined sitting area, upcycled vintage doors and cozy turquoise Adirondack chairs that invited visitors to pause and relax.

Potted pink blooms added a pop of color against the rustic wood and pastel paint, while hanging wind chimes whispered in the summer breeze. It is a charming spot for quiet conversation, or perhaps for reading a good book with a glass of lemonade.

The Rugby Garden Tour continues to be a highlight of the summer season, not just for its blooms and beauty, but for the warm hospitality of residents like Brossart and Olson, who open their yards and hearts to visitors year after year.
