I bought this fabulous monstera pachicutza today for $50. I feel like I got a great deal, but it's all new to me. I don't know anything about this plant except that it's gorgeous.

Is it rare? If anyone can share pics of theirs I'd love to see them.

I haven’t seen many of them in collections or nurseries. So, I would say it’s “uncommon”. The prices I’ve seen for them are not crazily inflated—YET. It seems once interest picks up for an Aroid, Prices get higher and higher. They are available from Ecuagenera USA & Ken’s Philodendrons and I’ve seen rooted nodes on Etsy, as well. I’ve learned to wait on buying plants on my wishlist. Eventually, a major grower like Costa Farms will put them out for reasonable prices a year or so after the Hype, like the M. Esqueleto & M. Pinnatipartita.

Looks like a Monstera Adansonii (swiss cheese) to me, which are $10-15. The Pachicutza have larger fenestrations that cut through the whole leaf with only veiny sections left. They look very similar when the first one or two leaves are emerging, but by leaf three and four you can usually see the difference.

Maybe accuminata but not pachi I believe. Idk. Grow it out is the only way.

As others mentioned, this is likely a monstera adansonii. They look exactly like this. Grown several

There is a narrow form and wide form adonsonii. Pachicutza is supposed to have much larger leaves with less fenestrations, but they are also much larger fenestrations.

Here’s my question, who did you buy this from? A private citizen or a business? If it’s a business then how trustworthy are they? If it’s a private citizen exchange then it’s likely they’re also misinformed rather than trying to rip you off or something.

Can you reach back out to the person you bought this from?

I have 4 different monsteras and several5 are Adansonii at various growth stages. I’d bet all my monsteras it’s the same plant sold to me several times as Adansonii.

It IS a good plant! It’s not hard to grow, it can grow fast and it loves to climb. But if you CAN undo your deal, I think you’ll find them in full 6″ pots for $10-20 in grocery stores and local garden centers.

If you can’t undo it and buy cheaper, know that plant prices are VERY volatile, and what is fair at $50 one week is 10 the next, and it’s hard to keep up, even for growers. You’ll live and love that plant.

It’s gorgeous. If you took a hit and over payed for something that was mislabeled but you still love how the plant looks….oh well 🤷‍♀️ to me the important thing is having plants that bring us joy. I’m not super sure which it is but I think it is a really cool plant and I would’ve probably done the same thing. Congrats on your newest addition!

Yeah it’s not rare. Someone just claiming it to be one thing and it’s not. Sometimes people buy them as such and don’t know any better too.
