It gets about 6-8 hrs of sunlight with some patchy shade areas where I think part sun plants should be.
We are open to garden decor ideas too.
Also, the tree in the photo isn’t there anymore.

I’d call that a microclimate area since it likely doesn’t get a lot of air movement which really gets to evergreens in winter, and plant roots will be near the foundation. Good place to try zone pushing if you want to try it. If youre in zone 6, then you could try zone 7 evergreen. Just an idea.

I know it spreads, but snow on the mountain is a ground cover that doesn’t need tons of maintenance and can easily be limited to that square. (Or similar ground cover)

Was a bush there previously? Or an airco unit?

  4. Tsukiyama (築山)

Translation: “Artificial mountain” or “constructed hill.”

Definition: In Japanese garden design, a tsukiyama is a man-made miniature mountain or mountain range, often created with carefully placed rocks and earth to represent natural topography in miniature.

Then you can use smaller pebbles or even small quartz rocks to make a dry river leading away from the mtns out into the bed.

Pro tip: get some larger quarts rocks to make your mini MTN have snowy peaks.

Depends. Do you want to keep the view from the windows, or something tall that will give privacy? Do you want a perennial that dies back to the ground, or a year round shrub?
