Hexham MP Joe Morris visited Hexham Community Garden, which is part of the town-wide Grow Hexham Project, on June 28.
He met Grow Hexham coordinator Bex Bradbury and Town Councillor Penny Grennan, who initiated the project through Hexham Town Council.
Mr Morris toured the garden, met volunteers and visited the new polytunnel.
Grow Hexham runs workshops on gardening, and the polytunnel will extend the calendar for these events, as well as the growing season.
The key message from Grow Hexham at this time of year is not to waste surplus fruit and vegetables, but to donate to friends, neighbours, or the Community Grocery, which is located behind the hospital on Wanless Lane.
Free events are being held in the Community Garden every Tuesday morning during August.
Grow Hexham also runs a tool shed where people can donate and get free tools.
Visit Grow Hexham’s Facebook page for more information.
