If you aren’t doing this when you are harvesting your basil, you’re missing out. You are missing out on loads, loads, loads more basil. That one little basil plant will produce much, much more if you harvest this way. When you harvest your basil, you want to cut or pinch it right at the top of some a leaf node. And here’s why. Do you see this fresh growth here? And there’s new little fresh growth right there. All of that is now going to bush out and you’re going to get a stronger, beefier basil plant. If all you do is take off a leaf like this, you’re missing out. Your plant actually wants you to cut it way down here. I’ve been waiting for these to finally get going with the heat of the summer. And now we’re going to harvest them all the way down here so that they can bush out. And we’re going to get more, like five times more basil from this same little patch. Check out this basil plant. So, I pinched it down here harvesting some a couple weeks ago. And now, look at this. It’s already sent up three new branches of basil all ready for us to harvest. This one as well. All of these branches of basil are because we pinched it way down here. So, don’t just take off one leaf. Cut off the whole stock because now we’re going to go make some chimmy cherry sauce with it. And I got to show you something else. There’s a really cool basil trick. So, check this out. Sometimes I harvest a little bit more basil than we need. And so, I just pop it in a little jar with some water. And within just a week or so, do you see that? Those are roots. This can now get planted. I have started a brand new pa basil plant all just from harvesting so that we could have some delicious dinner. So if you have one plant, you can actually start so so so many more by just cutting off some of those branches, sticking it in water, and as soon as it has roots, you can go plant it in your garden. And now chimmy cherry sauce is ready for steak and grilled salmon and marinated chicken. And this little jar will be gone before we know it. And I’ll be out there harvesting more basil soon cuz next up I’m going to make hazelnut pesto.
