The lawn care company I hire to come throughout the year seems to just be lazy, not even covering 50% of the front yard. Is it valid to complain over the lack of applying the product correctly, let alone even applying it at all?

Just switch companies and if the incumbent asks why you are switching, you can give them feedback. If they offer to reduce price or do a better job next time – you can haggle.
It depends what they are applying. I mean your lawn looks nice
I apply pesticide like this not everything has to be completely even.
I definitely would. Not sure what they are applying here but that coverage is terrible. If it’s fertilizer it will be very obvious.
The first time i actually watched our pest control people do their round, the next day I canceled. These companies hire anyone with a pulse and they don’t want to be there.
You can complain but they won’t give 2 shits. Most people do their own care for this reason.
this is why I wont pay anyone to do my lawn. I can do it better myself and I care.
You probably spent more time contemplating this and posting then if you had just done it yourself. Hose applications are simple if that is your route.
You have a spotless lawn. It’s green and lush. I think it really matters what he applied to your lawn. If this guy is applying fertilizer, it didn’t look like you need it. If he’s applying a spot weed killer, maybe he’s hitting the trouble spots.
If this is a pattern that you’re seeing proof of over multiple visits, yes I think it’s valid to mention something.
Keep in mind, some of the chemicals the professional companies spray are meant to be applied lightly/sparingly. I’ve had companies over the years over-spray or use over-concentrated products and burn up portions of my lawn. If they’re just watering here, they might also go lightly if you’re in a wet season.
FWIW, your lawn looks insanely healthy. Green, lush, amazing. If that is a credit to your lawn care company, I’d say they’re doing a perfect job so far this year.
This is why I bought a sprayer and do it all myself. I remember my parents hired true green (i know 🤦) and they would come spray stuff in the rain that needed applied on dry grass. Multiple times. Or say they showed when they didnt. My dads grass went from decent to looking like shit in 1 season. Now he does it all himself. Back then he would work 12hr days for 4 months straight so he needed someone to do it. Now hes retired so thay helps too.
Lawn looks great it must be working
get sunday and DIY
I used to use TruGreen and they were like this. My lawn started to go into decline with weeds taking over as grass began to retreat. The final straw was when a door-to-door TruGreen sales rep knocked and said “I don’t know who is currently doing your lawn, but we can get this cleaned up and looking good again.” I mentioned that I was a TruGreen customer. “Oh. Uh. Hehehehe. You got me here. I didn’t realize.”
I cancelled that same day.
So when I bought my home I went with a company, lets call them Gatural Pawn of Shamerica. They offered a package to aerate and over-seed for a very reasonable price. I got a call that told me they had an opening and would be coming out, but I told them to hold off because we were supposed to get severe thunderstorms.
They came when I was at work and I called the office when I saw them on the camera to tell them they shouldn’t be there. Next day, complete washout. I had detailed photos, called many times, and they told me the seed was definitely fine. I had to call the corporate office and email them all the photos just to get them to refund me as a “credit” that could be applied to future sprays. Fuck them

This was what they said was ok
Idk. I did pest control and we had pretty specific guidelines to follow on how much product to use. People would complain all the time, use more spray more and I was like “the EPA says to only use this much!” Spray too much and that’s why we don’t have bees or frogs anymore.
all lawn companies in my area do exactly like that, I dont use there service anymore but some neighbors so I still see them in action. imo complaining wont help, its gonna be DIY or accept this level of effort
im sorry but this is hilarious
Depends on what he’s spraying. Seems to miss a lot of area. Doesn’t care?
Stop applying pesticides please! And, your lawn looks perfect, what are you complaining about?
That is a Made in the USA job. LoL
It depends on what you value. Are you paying for input or paying for output? I’d argue it doesn’t matter what he really does as long as your lawn looks that nice, because whatever he’s doing is working and that’s what you pay for.
If he’s the regular for your yard, he may remember where the rough spots are and he’s hitting those spots specifically.
Just bring it up to him. Like, “hey man, my camera sent a movement notification to my phone so I watched for a bit and saw you hit specific spots and missed others, was that by design?”
Then watch the next application and see if he changes the pattern knowing you might be watching. 🤷🏻♂️
If this is TrueGreen, this is exactly why I canceled my services with them.
I would complain regardless of what hes applying. Watched like 5 times and there is no rhyme or reason to why hes spreading like that.
Doesn’t matter what he’s applying. You’re paying for each application and didn’t get a full application. Bring it up and I’m sure they’ll compensate for it.
Don’t get me started on lawn care company. They sold me an expensive big package and after coming for over 10 (mostly half assed) visits I still had weeds and some bare spots in my lawn. After a lot of back and forth I got a refund and I’m gonna do it myself.
Your lawn looks great. Either stop whining or take care of it yourself.
Dammn im a lawn tech and this looks terrible I wouldn’t pay for that service or have the come back and retreat
This looks like he’s there to apply weed killer and you don’t have any weeds. The job order said to apply so that’s what he is doing. While this may be a performative application, it may just be because your lawn is already doing really well
Yeah, I’d switch or cancel outright. Try to find a small, independent company or individual person. People who have ownership of their companies tend to be dedicated enough to ensure they are giving you exceptional service.
I don’t know if this brief clip is enough to indicate. What looks random to you looks methodical to me so far as coverage is concerned. Is the amount of product applied to a given area consistent? Does it need to be? I give the applicator the benefit of any doubt. Your lawn looks awesome. And you are worried about method? Having said that I would never higher such a service.
Applicator here…. there is no situation that this is OK. Send this to thr company. I love when customers do this because I can make the tech explain themselves in person and typically helps show them that 1, everyone is watching. And 2, this is unacceptable.
Honestly, he probably just sees your nice yard (with what appears to be no weeds) and just gave it a once over.
Yep valid. It’s lazy and ineffective. Your lawn looks amazing though
I’ve been a lawn care technician for a while and this looks pretty bad. Send the company this video and if they are half way decent, they’ll retrain or tell him to take a hike
Thats a joke, not an application.
Buddy looks like he knows what he is doing and your lawn is like forest green with no weeds? She ain’t broke brother
This is why I DIY.
I mean, your lawn looks great. Depending on what’s being sprayed, they might just choose to spot treat certain areas where it looks like it might be needed. Liquid applications often dissolve anyway and naturally spread through the soil. I wouldn’t expect him to walk up and down your property like a typewriter spraying every square inch.
Fired. New company. This is normal for them.
I mean, yes, but the counter would be “Look at those results!”. Your lawn is fire!
Is this your first time with this landscaper? Or have you been using them for a while?
Your lawn looks fabulous. I’d start to complain when it doesn’t.
Absolutely, I tell customers who come into my chemical shop to always use the little guy who maybe have a one or two truck spray company. Its usually the owner and their child doing the work. Their name is on the line and always want to do a good job. When you get these bigger guys from my experience of people coming in tell me that they don’t do a good job. Why would they. The tech might be mad that day, could be he hates his job or is mad he’s not getting paid enough and it reflects on their work. Also, the little guy is cheaper from all the invoices I see. I also teach them what to put down and when if they are interested in doing it themselves.
Fire them and do it yourself. You can save a ton of money and it really isn’t that much work. Most of what they do is performative, like this.
