Greetings from Southeastern North Carolina. This summer have had this plant pop up in a perfect row (probably on a runner root?) and we have not see this in the three years we’ve lived here. My resources are coming up empty on an ID and I hear you are the bunch to help!

I called my county extension office and sent in pics. They think it’s a common persimmon but from what I’m reading those do not grow from a runner root which I assume these to be doing…

    The leaves look a lot like my buttonbush, but not the overall structure, and that one doesn’t have a runner. In five years mine has not spread at all.
