Scott’s can’t keep getting away with this

Least you know the fertiliser you used is top notch! Because that green is dark green! P.s this is the American Scott’s spreader, I use a UK Scott’s (“miracle-gro” it now trades under) rotary spreader that seems to be slightly made different with no issues, and over 10years old.

Never go full rate using a scotts spreader. I usually cut the rate x2 or x3 and apply in a grid pattern adding a diagonal pass if I cut it x3. I also dont use any granular fertilizer with iron and apply liquid iron.

I know it’s not a great spreader but that looks like I did that drunk

  6. CTtheWalrus

I’ve been using my Scott’s spreader with no issues. Surely it won’t happen to me.

Am i the only person who doesn’t have this problem?

    Y’all ninjas gotta walk faster.

This is a newbie question so forgive me, but all I see are posts saying don’t use these kind of spreaders…what are we supposed to use?

I have a 5800sqft lawn and it might almost be easier for me to use my garden hose and a dial-n-spray, are there good liquid products I could do that method with? Or is there a better broadcast spreader that I should pony up for?

I use a Scott’s spreader and never have this problem. Idk why I see this posted all the time? Am I doing something wrong?

Looks great! Patterns without striping. You’re living in 3035

my Scott spreader has been great going on 7yrs. are you using a drop spreader? i don’t see this happening using a broadcast spreader. and the edgeguard on scott’s spreader is nice. my lawn is tiny compared to yours, but never had a problem with streaky fert.

You just need to overlap more. It’s not the spreader- it’s the operator.

Go 1/2 the recommended amount top to bottom. Repeat side to side. Problem solved.

  14. FluffYerHead

I learned the hard way too. I had to make a second pass a week or two later but the second pass never made it as green as the first pass. Straight to the dumpster that thing went.

I used the Solo 421 chest spreader. very easy to use, and can store it on the shelf.

  16. UserNameInGeorgia

I cut amount in half and then walk east to west covering entire yard and then repeat going north to south.

  17. FR4NKDUXX

I wrapped duct tape around both wheels and mine has never had that problem again.

No way that’s this happens with a broadcast spreader. I always go over it twice with the broadcast on half the recommend application setting. Go one way then the other and it’s impossible to miss. Yeah you can screw up in other ways but you won’t miss spots.

On an unrelated note, I love those big trees and the look of your house. We don’t get anything like that in Illinois, what state is that?

  20. FreshCords

Gotta checkerboard. Up and down and come back and do side to side.

  21. 616GoBlue

Just switched to an Echo RB-60 from my Scott’s Deluxe spreader and it is night and day difference

  22. Long_Valuable_3502

I have the accudrop 3000 or some such model drop spreader and it’s only bad when I’m having a senior moment of some kind.

I use it to both topdress and fertilize

  23. IMHO_Sleepy

Here’s a trick an old neighbor gave me: apply 1/2 the rate in one direction (front to back) and another application at 1/2 rate in the cross direction…no stripes.

  24. Well that’s a way of having permanent stripes 😂

  25. This isn’t the typical scott spreader problem.

  26. Crypto_Loco_8675

Everyone blames the Scott’s spreader but it is the type of spreader and the user sadly. I have had a Scott’s drop spreader for over 20 years now and I have never once experienced this in any of my lawns. Whatever brand you get, you just need a drop spreader.

Regardless the spreader what product is making that much of a difference and why in the dead of summer
