Not that I’d ever defend HOA authority over anything, but she was jailed for contempt of court–she didn’t show up for her court date. That one was to respond to a previous court appearance where the judge asked her to respond to multiple HOA notices, including parking a cargo van in her driveway and fixing a garage door, in addition to planting some seed because it apparently had no grass. And she was representing herself without a lawyer, and her responses were basic handwritten notes across a few photos instead of proper documentation (receipts, timeline, detailed photos) of work done.
EDIT: The article states that 40% of Floridians live in HOA-governed housing?! What an abdication of the basic property rights the American Revolution was founded on. I get everybody working together to pool money for a landscaping crew, but the “write-up the neighbors” for keeping up appearances is the ultimate freedom fire sale. There’s literally nothing more petty.
